Samsung's Windows 10-powered Surface competitor will be available to buy in the United States today, priced at $899.99 including the keyboard cover. The tablet was first announced at CES 2016 and featured in our Best of CES awards, but this is the first time Samsung has revealed its price.
For $900, you get a 12-inch 2160 x 1440 Super AMOLED display in a 6.3mm thick body, powered by a 2.2 GHz Intel Core M CPU (likely the Skylake Core m3-6Y30) with 4 GB of RAM, a 5,200 mAh battery, and 128 GB of storage. There's also a range of connectivity including Wi-Fi ac with MIMO support, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, and an optional Category 6 LTE radio.
At this price, the TabPro S competes directly with the entry-level Microsoft Surface Pro 4, which also includes an Intel Core m3 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. However, with the Surface Pro 4 you have to fork out an extra $129.99 for the Type Cover, whereas the TabPro S includes the keyboard in its base price.
The TabPro S' keyboard cover is less versatile than the Type Cover, as its stand packs just two angles, while the Pro 4's kickstand supports a wide variety of angles. In some ways this makes the TabPro S more like the iPad Pro, although Apple's competing tablet runs iOS and costs more than $1,000 for a 128 GB model with their Smart Keyboard.
If you're interested in purchasing the TabPro S, it will initially be available from Best Buy starting today. Microsoft will then begin selling the tablet in the US and Canada from April 4th through their online and physical stores.
