Screen black

i have a hp pavillion dv 2000 with vista left notebook open screen went black and is staying black tried rebooting ram and hard drive no help need help????

Likely the inverter, often called the backlight, has gone bad. Costs about $6 to $24 to buy and install yourself. Requires removal of a lot of screw covers and 24 screws. Becuase of the time involved, it costs about $150 for a good repair shop to do it for you.

I should also mention that i am able to turn on and off but lights stay on even when lid closed and no keys or dvd driveor volume /mute like laptop frozen
