SK Hynix boss says the memory chip shortage is going to last until 2030

That's not capitalism, that's monopoly.
Cartel agreement of three manufacturers (SK Hynix, Micron, Samsung)
If you're going to spread disinformation, at least use the proper terms. The word you want is oligopoly. But it doesn't apply here. The reason there's only three major memory makers is that other firms are reluctant to enter this highly cyclic market, because whenever demand and margins are high (as they are now), the firms each immediately begin building so much new capacity that prices crash, and their profits turn to losses.

As high as they're riding now, as recently as 2023 all three firms (or rather, their memory divisions) were taking massive losses -- because, rather than colluding, they'd built more supply than the world demanded.

The current demand is artificial, memory production reserved for yet unbuilt and unable to power datacenters that are years out and may never see reality. If the three memory makers can flood the market, then reserves are unnecessary.

I upgraded from the 4770k to the 13700k, so that's 9 years. I think I'll be keeping my 13700k & 32gb DDR5 for a similar time line (Intel dropped the ball on the 13xxx series, but it runs cool with an undervolt & power limits).
I don't understand people buying the last couple of generations of Intel's CPUs. AMD CPUs are less expensive, draw less power, run cooler, and are faster, not to mention that AMD motherboards work on multiple generations of CPUs.

It does not pay to be a fanboy for any brand of any PC component. I've owned both AMD and Nvidia GPUs and Intel and AMD CPUs. I buy from whomever gives me the most for my money, although I have quit Nvidia for good, due to their utter lack of ethics, and their condescending attitude toward their customers.

So, like, what if people just...stop buying electronics? I know, it's a "far out there" idea, given how utterly addicted people are to their "pocket crack", but it's possible. What if, after the AI bubble reaches its apex and people just decide "nah, I'm not going to participate". All of that money and no customers.

"You will own nothing and be", only works, if people resign themselves to accept the new reality. They don't have to. Just walk away. What is Big-AI going to do, hold the entire world hostage at gunpoint, until shareholder's get a return on their investment?

If only humans devised of a system to stop this sort of thing.

We should call it a government.
We tried it, and called it Socialism. After having it fail brutally in the USSR, Cuba, North Korea, and elsewhere, we returned to the freedom of a market economy that's lifted so many billions out of poverty.

The US government has put a stop to it before several times.

But now we're headed towards a technofeudal corporatocracy where companies have significant influence over the government, and many are put out of work because the AI bros have gaslit policy makers into believing AI can replace real people.

This.

They've stopped caring about pretending.
