Looking for a Meerkat or Periscope alternative that offers a bit more privacy? You’re in luck as a new streaming app called Skeegle promises to deliver that exact experience.

To get started, simply download the app for either Android or iOS, sign in using Facebook and link your mobile number. From there, you can build a list of friends using your phone’s contact list. When it comes time to stream something, just select the friend or group you want to share with and start broadcasting.

As Engadget points out, the app will archive all of your broadcasts in the cloud so they’ll also be available for viewing at a later date. Anyone that has a device capable of receiving an SMS can watch a stream either in a browser window or within the app.

The app, from UK wireless provider EE, has been in the works for the past year. Instead of building it solely on their own, EE contracted an outside consultant to create an in-house startup which would allow them to work outside of what the publication calls the EE corporate machine.

Curiously enough, EE is electing to let Skeegle grow organically which means it won’t be promoting it in any way. It raises the question of why the carrier would go through the trouble of hiring an outside firm to help with development but I digress.

Anyone meeting the aforementioned requirements can view a Skeegle broadcast but as of now, you’ll need a UK mobile number to livestream your own content.
