So you only have PCI slots and want to game?

Just a update, taking back the GT220 and buying a 9800GT in a few hours, or a GT240, which is close to my 9800gt, but faster then my 4670. Be back later

Yes i bought the GT220 last night for 95 bucks from best buy. And i already said many many times that i do not buy cards that require power connectors, so the 260GTX will never happen. Another thing, i already said a million times that i am buying a 9800gt for my secondary rig the Quad Core system. The GT220 was the best choice IMO, all i was doing was replacing my 9500gt, thats all.

peace

It's not worth 95 bucks, there are better cards for less. I don't read everything you post so you'll have to excuse me if I don't know what card you're going to buy or whether or not you like cards that utilize external power. That said, it seems really silly to me to ignore certain cards because they take external power. It takes all of two seconds to hook up one extra cable. The only exception would be if your power supply doesn't have any pci-e connectors, obviously you can't do anything about that. If it does though then why not take the time to hook up a better card?

Well i bought a 9800gt now, took back the gt220. I bought the green edition 9800gt. I just don't feel like buying cards that require any connectors. Thank goodness they make them without the connectors lol. I am gaming now with a 4670 and a 9800gt , so i am good.

peace

awesome, 9800GT is the best non power connector card I know of.

Sparkle 9500 GT PCI in Dell 2400

Gentlemen,

I know I have an old machine but need some answers from experts. Please don't ask me to get a new computer instead :)

I got a Spakle 9500 GT 512MB PCI for my Dell 2400 two days ago and surprisingly to find out that it has been very slow in games (even on Call of Duty 2) or playing my SONY HD home movies.

Before that, I had a Radeon X1550 and it ran even faster than the 9500 GT!

My Dell 2400 specs:

Pentium4 3.06GHz
2 GB RAM
550W power
Window XP SP3
ACER 24" HD LCD

Do I need to twist anything (like bios) for this card? It seems like others are doing fine with their 9500 GT PCI on Dell 2400.

Could run some benchmarks with FRAPS to see if it actually is running slower rather than thinking it is running slow. If you can average 30 FPS in CoD 2 with that, I would be happy with that. Could be your drivers not allowing you to optimize performance, make sure to download the latest from the nVidia website.

Very similar system specs to my current PC, interesting. I swapped out mobos for the same make and model that had an AGP slot, makes a huge difference, you might try that. By swapping for the same make and model mobo, I avoided HP proprietary lock out of the new mobo, may work for you also with your Dell. I estimate I get double the performance with my AGP 4x HD 3850 than I would have if I got a 9500GT PCI. Difference would be greater but my CPU bottlenecks the HD 3850.

Can you post your GPU-Z image, download GPU-Z , i wanna see the specs on the card please.

It is the fan version.

Also, I have switched the AGP Aperture in BIOS to 256MB (max) and on board video card buffer to 1MB (minimum, don't want to waste memory there). Are these helpful?

Tha General, will post some GPU-Z info very soon. I need to get more than 5 posts to post pics :)

play with home made HD (AVCHD) movies,
noticed the Memory is extremely low ????
shouldn't be the magic 512MB ????

This 9500 GT PCI uses 512MB DDR2 but my Dell 2400 only runs DDR. Is this the reason why?

BTW, my other Radeon X1550 PCI 256MB runs DDR2 also.

The memory on your GPU is not related to your PC memory in any way, so get the fastest you can on your GPU. Memory usage by the card will fluctuate and is not an issue to worry about. You need to use FRAPS and measure your FPS to actually see how it is running slower.

AGP aperture should be about 128mb since you have a half gig on the card. It should be as low as possible.

jojodancer, I had the same problem on my Dimension 3000. I upgraded from a GeForce 5200 FX to a 9400 GT and lost considerable performance. Unfortunately, I was never able to solve the problem despite using various drivers, upgrading the power supply, etc. I finally just broke down and bought a new system. I wish I could be of more assistance to you on the matter but I will stay tuned to see if you find a fix. I gave my old Dell to my daughter and still have the 9400 GT in it. Would be nice to be able to pull some better performance from it.

yeap. Onboard driver has been "disabled" (control panel > system > hardware > device manager) and same as in BIOS (switch to AUTO).

Breech, I think we will get this fixed! We just need more inputs from the experts and other users that have 9500 GT PCI on their older Dells as well :)

My theory and i think i am right about this, new nvidia pci cards are not very good, depending on your system you have. I ran my 8400gs and 2400hd on my single core emachine 2.4ghz computer and call of duty ran at 80-100fps most of the time. From what i can see, maybe something is causing the fps to be bad. I am not sure what the issues could be to be honest. Just do a fresh install maybe , and use the drivers that came with the disc.

maybe I will do the fresh reinstall again to see what happen.

Tha General, by looking at my GPU-Z date, have you found anything unusual?

electromagnetic, yours is a PCIe card.

Use Call of Duty 2 as an example, why the menu is still at 250 FPS and game mode is only 1 or 2 FPS!!!!????

My other Radeon X1550 256MB PCI performed much bettter than this although I did not check the FPS.

I am sure there must be other users have 9500gt on their Dell 2400......

Oh, you are lucky.

Have you installed it?

Don't know why, but PC Wizard 2009 and CPU-Z say the Graphic Interface at my Dell are PCI and PCIe.
