Sound card problems please help

Hi all
I hope someone can help been on this for 2 weeks now.
I have an asus p4r800 motherboard with a ac97 audio device. When i go into bios it says I have diabled this.
I am trying to get sound from a prosound 5.1 card that i have fitted ci8738 but no joy .
My surround sound kit is working fine but no joy with any music or films from the pc.
I still have the little speaker next to the clock someone told me that needed to go .
WHAT AM I MISSING????

when i go to device manager it says the card and drivers are working fine

What happens when you go into the BIOS and uncheck the disable?
You might just want to download and reinstall the Blanket AC97 drivers... They cover most sound devices over the past three years.

sorry I am trying to get sound from my 5.1 sound card I have fitted. Do I still need the ac97 drivers?

The 5.1 card I have fitted says it is enabled and the drivers are working fine.
I have the card wired up from optical out to optical in on my surround sound amp.
does that help
