Star Wars: The Acolyte has been canceled after one season

Full disclosure: Haven't watched a second.

This is fundamentally misunderstanding the issue because the show runners were all woke agenda pushing twerps and not actual Star Wars fans.

Question: How many showrunners know anything about the series they oversee? Being/Not-being a fan has little to no correlation between whether or not they can put together a coherent narrative.

Leslie Headland shouldn't have been given anything like this, but she got the role because she's a lesbian and maybe a little because she was Harvey W's personal assistant and probably knows enough dirt to get her way.

I'm sure her numerous writing/showrunning credits had *nothing* to do with the decision. But that's what it comes down to with you people: You complain about "merit", but only for people with the same ideology as you, and when someone without your ideology gets the job, you complain how they only got it because of "wokeness". Meanwhile, you have the gall to say:

No, it's an ideology that ensures deserving individuals who happen to be not of the majority have a fair opportunity to compete. As opposed to people like you, who want only individuals and viewpoints you personally agree with.

I would say that if that was what "woke" was then it wouldn't bother me a bit. But it's like I have said in many of these conversations, it also depends on how far they take it.

Like this show and the fact that they made sure not to have white men as any of the main characters because we all know that "white cis men" is a bad thing to people with this ideology.

Or in the upcoming Assassin's creed where they decided to have you play as a gay black samurai and a gay woman ninja.

It's so damn cringe and honestly it's just stupid. They have the right to make stupid if that's what they want to do but it gets so old. I have almost completely stopped buying this kind of crap. I have wanted an Assassins creed in feudal japan so long and talk about disappointment after hearing the amount of stupid...but it would be a cold day in hell before I give Ubi any money for trash like that.

Claiming "It's not because it's woke" when this thing is absolutely oozing in woke ideology and left-wing political agendas, but that instead it's just bad storytelling, doesn't come to grips with the cause-and-effect principle at play here. The story is bad, because it's woke. Just like everything else woke. Good story telling and wokeness are water and oil. Woke is an ideology that pushes diversity above merit. Handing the show over to a woman without a shred of Star Wars knowledge, who gives a leading role to her "wife/girlfriend" (nepotism) and proceeds to make it the 'gayest' Star Wars ever, is kind of the ultimate example of what wokeness does.

Wow, your tireless dedication to exposing all the 'woke' threats that most of us miss is truly heroic. Without your enlightening commentary, I'd still be living in blissful ignorance. Keep fighting the good fight!

Woke or not, the series sucked on so many levels, hence its canceling.

I'm certain we're on the cusp of another cultural explosion like we had between the 60s and 90s. We just need to wait until everyone gets bored enough! It's no harm if people lose interest in Star wars, Marvel and the flood of flimsy sequels and spin-offs.

I was thinking the same thing recently. We have all these games with amazing graphics and movies with incredible cgi yet it's the same old rehashed crap with woke trash added to it.
Media in some way is better than ever and boring as ever in other ways. Very strange.

Well. People shouldn't bash all the work Disney has done with Star Wars - I think they did quite well with The Mandalorian and Andor.

Obi Wan should've been a movie, the series dragged out even though it didn't have many episodes.
The book of boba fett had two good episodes, both of them involving the mandalorian and not boba fett.
Ashoka was medicore, but not terrible

It continues to stagger me how awful 99% of the screenwriters in the US are. The shows are so shallow, the characters so one dimensional and the plotlines so paper-thin.

It's basically this. Forget all the woke stuff because that only amounts to about 10% of complaints, the majority of the complaints are as you put it. It's just plain awful writing and the people can plainly see it when they compare the new stuff to what was produced years ago.

I've come to the conclusion that Hollywood is creatively bankrupt. Anyone that had a shred of actual creativity got the hell out decades ago and all that's left are a bunch of sycophants that bark like seals whenever the corporate suits come walking in.

Gone are the days of people like J. Michael Straczynski, Gene Roddenberry, and George Lucas. Those were the real geniuses. Now all we have are useless hacks that couldn't write themselves out a wet paper bag.

Well I think that conservatives are very much out numbered in the media creation world. I also think in general that left leaning people tend to be more creative.
But it seems to me that Hollywood and the like have really had so much focus on social issues that it has hampered the creation of new ideas. It's like creating the same crap and throwing a black or gay woman in as the protagonist will be "good enough".

In videogames I think the focus is only money for the most part. Play it safe...create the same game and slap some new skins on it and call it a day.

I used to upgrade my PC every year and for the first time ever I'm not. It's just not worth it to me atm. I mean I'm playing WoW because all the new crap is so boring....that's sad.

The casting for Bridgerton was a full on genuine step forward for diversity rather than a token one. It's bold full on anyone can play anyone. Historically accurate? Who cares. No explaining, no signalling. Just actors acting. And it's class. A huge breath of fresh air.

Yeah my wife was watching this and I caught a bit of it. It didn't seem to have that "LOOK HOW DIVERSE WE ARE!!! LOOOOOOK!!!!!!".

I thought that season 2 had real potential. The Sith guy and the good twin could have been super cool. The show had flaws but still it's miles better than the original trilogy and the prequel films. There is so much more character development in these slow series. It's also nice to see new Jedi stories.
Even though there were flaws my impression is that most of the negativity is political.
I find it a really worrying that whenever there is a mixed race/gay lead in SW there are review bombs and cancellations. There has been a whole century of struggles to broaden holywood representation.. and it's finally happening.
I am pretty sure that the macho mercenaries of the mandalorian doesn't appeal to lefties too.
I also liked that there was a bit of criticism of the Jedi and their methods which have produced some monumental disasters. This kind of raw force use that's not evil is interesting to explore. The main villain was also pretty cool.

I loved the show. You have to do new things to keep making content. Jedi's are not supposed to be immortal or perfect - and there is ultimately no perfect 'good guys' (which they demonstrated).

The woman only cult thing did not reflect gayness to me - it had a rare cult vibe, which felt authentic and fresh.

Politics really weren't brought into the conversation until YOU started with the "cult leader" comment. Until now I don't think the "cult leader" has even been mentioned. It looks like you're the one struggling with insecurities.

Social issues were brought up and for good reason. When the director herself starts talking about it being "the gayest starwars ever". And if you know anything about the show you can see her social views were in fact imported into it. You can't expect people to not notice and bring it up in a situation like this where they REALLY want everyone to see it.
