What just happened? SpaceX's Starlink satellite-based Internet service is now available in 32 countries around the globe. The Elon Musk-led company shared a link to its availability map on Twitter, and said people who order from an area marked as "available" will have their Starlink kit shipped immediately.

According to the map, Starlink service is available in large portions of Europe, North America, New Zealand and the lower half of Australia. Other regions including Africa, Greenland and much of South America are expected to see availability beginning in 2023.

Earlier this year, Starlink announced a price increase that it said was necessary in order to keep up with rising inflation. With the hike, a Starlink starter kit will now set buyers back $599 before shipping and tax. The monthly service rate also went up, from $99 to $110 per month.

Starlink is markedly more expensive than offerings from other ISPs but for many considering the service, it may be the only option to choose from. Such is especially true for those in rural areas that aren't serviced by major Internet service providers.

SpaceX is constantly adding more satellites to its constellation. The next rocket launch, which will carry 53 more Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit, is slated for later today from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

For a big farm it's a small cost - considering a modern farm is very much connected to the internet = weather , soil profiles , markets local & international , logistics, accounts , zoom , purchasing very particular parts - given probably only getting 3G mobile at best

Whatever happened to Musk's promise of "cheap internet worldwide", and all he was going to do to provide it?

At least you and I know better than to think that Musk ever spouts anything but hot air and BS from his various bodily orifices. ;) Musk is all talk and no delivery on his promises.

Now I'm not a fan of Musk - he's a hot mix of good and bad TBF he has convictions and cojones . But it's not necessarily his job to provide cheap internet to individual people - He does want to cover the world .
One star link connection could serve a whole small village - with some charity or local initiative to provide the ground based mesh/LAN - Yes the whole village may not be able to watch 100 fullHD streams - but lets get real - The village may have patchy or no direct electricity - few TVS etc - There is something nice if the local school , church , open area becomes a community cinema on Friday night with a projector and big box speakers .
Many in the village could have cheap Indian/Chinese phones - maybe a couple of people offering charging services for some little money .
When I travelled in Africa it was the infrastructure that limited the income of the small farmer - cost and time to market through say truck drivers controlling the access on bad roads - plus delayed communication on market wants and prices

You got that right.

Which differs widely from the proclamations he made when introducing it.

Some sociopaths wind up in jail, others as CEOs and owners of huge corporations. Musk is the latter type. Any good he does, is strictly for publicity or diversion. He does exhibit, "the craftiness of the insane".

Take the Twitter purchase for example, he's doing it for "freedom of speech", or so he says. However, his ulterior motives abound.
The "big three automakers, (and many others), have jumped on the electric car bandwagon, so it's no longer a Tesla monopoly. Far from it.

Buying Twitter, giving Starlink to Ukraine, keeps him smack dab in front of the camera, where he has a desperate longing to be, as well as sweeping his other outlandish ideas and screw ups, under the rug.

For example, I thought somebody would be driving a "Cybertruck", on mars by now..

In fairness though, with Diesel fuel @$6.00 a gallon, can the price of RP-1 be far behind? Maybe that justifies the price hike in Starlink, maybe it doesn't.

One thing is for certain, rising fuel costs and the recent loss of 30 some Starlink satellites, won't be coming out of Musk's pocket, it will be coming out "yours". (Royal yours).

And someone's administration continues its war on US fossil fuel.

You're so smug and brainwashed you think the rest of us can't read.
To auction off-shore leases, the Department of Interior must follow a five-year plan, CBS News reported. The current plan was set to expire at the end of May, and there had been no interest in leasing the land.

The land in question was ignored and undeveloped by the oil companies. Biden's message was quite clear in his message about those leases, "use them or lose them".

In the event that drilling had begun, it would have taken years to bring oil, (f it even exists), to market.

The oil companies turned record profits last year. I\m sure they're happy about the current state of affairs, mo matter how many Republicans they had to lobby to make it so.

The Biden administration has cancelled at least two major pipelines since it took office, multiple oil fields here in Alaska along with cancelling any new drilling and fracking on federal lands. That doesn't even touch the financial aspect of it when the banks and lending companies are screwing any and all oil companies who choose to drill on the Arctic Ocean using the climate change scam excuse yet don't have a problem bankrolling Kremlin owned oil & gas companies drilling on the Arctic even though the Russians have a pathetic environmental record when it comes to oil production.

climate change scam excuse
Is that a "scam"?. Are you sure? (Of course you are, silly question).

It's such a pervasive "scam" in fact, that everybody and their mother are rushing to build electric cars.

What's the matter, can't you find anybody else to argue with on a Saturday night? I'm here for you. (y) (Y) (for about the next 5 minutes or so).

So in other words the climate change thing doesn't affect the world when it happens in Russia hence the reason banks and lending companies don't have a problem bankrolling Kremlin owned and operated oil & gas Arctic exploration. Learn history as in what the results of Stalin and Mao's cultural revolutions were in regards to the numbers of dead. You can't force something such as the Green Energy agenda on people when they aren't ready. btw if it wasn't for the green energy agenda you wouldn't see the likes of western Europe bankrolling Putin's war in Ukraine.
