Steelseries 7g keyboard locks up and beeps

Hello everyone. I'm a new member, but has been a longtime viewer of these forums and website.

I am posting to ask for your help w/ an extremely annoying problem I've been having over the last 3 days.

My Steelseries 7g keyboard locks up and beeps at random times. When it does so, it seems as if the Ctrl key is being held down. Otherwise there will simply be no input at all.

The keyboard is connected via PS/2. If this is the problem, would connecting the PS/2 to USB adapter help?

I am currently scanning my computer with anti-malware programs and anti-virus. Nothing found so far.

Below is a Hijackthis log, if that would help. My motherboard is the ASUS Sabertooth P67.

Try seeing if the PS/2 to USB connector helps at all. I think it is a sticky key problem. Beeping usually occurs when a key is being overly held down. Try it with any key if you want to see what I am talking about (make sure no text boxes are selected). When the beeping begins, press the key again to make the key come up. How long ago did you purchase the keyboard?

The adapter did not help.

Sticky keys and Filter keys are off. All keyboard accessibility options are off.

I turned on the on screen keyboard and it seems that the Ctrl key is being held down in all instances.

I bought the keyboard about 2 years ago.

Edit: No malware found.

I am not really a key expert, but maybe you can remove the cap of the key and see if the switch is stuck.

Just removed the key and cleaned out the switch with compressed air. Going to see if that did it.

It did not help. The keyboard locked up and began beeping at me.

It is also incredibly slow and laggy for typing.

If it's the keyboard itself, this will be the last time I buy a mechanical keyboard.

I would talk to Steelseries. I cant really help you much more. I think you should do some more research and maybe reach a solution. I think you should check this site out: http://faq.steelseries.com/. It seems like the warranty is only 1 year, so you may be out of luck. Mechanical keyboards are the best in my opinion. They last a lot longer than dome switch keyboards. If you are looking for a new one to replace this one if you cannot get it fixed, I would stick with Logitech (G710+).

Do you have access to another keyboard to test with? If so, try it to confirm whether or not the problem lies with the keyboard or elsewhere.

So far it is working just fine, however the old keyboard is USB.

It is infuriating that a $20 keyboard that is 5 years old would last longer than one over 7 times its price...

It seems to be pointing to a defective Steelseries keyboard. Now if you can find a PS/2 compatible PC and test the Steelseries on that, you'll know for certain.

I don't have another PS/2 capable PC. Right now, though, my old keyboard is having absolutely no problems.

Tomorrow I'm going to try the adapter again, and I'm going to increase the buffer size in registry to see if that helps...

If not... well.

I would talk to SteelSeries still man.
