Stop:0x00000024 error but cannot even enter recovery console

We get the BSOD when we start our Windows XP computer. It goes into the bios, shows that "Windows XP" screen, flashes the BSOD for only a second then recycles through the whole process again.

My son built the computer and we kept the Windows XP CD. I was able to read the CD and get to the "Welcome to Setup" screen. Problem is when I select "R" to get into the Recover Console I get the BSOD but this time it stays visbile and it gives the STOP: 0x00000024 code and identifies ntfs.sys.

So my dilema is I cannot even get into the Recovery Console to run chkdisk or other tools to try to repair the ntfs.sys file or whatever else on the hard drive that may be causing our problems.

What do I do from here?

Thanks.

There is a probability that your HDD may have developed some issues. Do you have access to any other computer which have XP installed/running so you can attach your hard disk to that pc?
