T-Mobile and Sprint, the nation’s third and fourth largest wireless providers, respectively, could finally solidify merger talks as early as next week according to sources familiar with the matter as reported by Reuters.

The on-again, off-again relationship between T-Mobile and Sprint has persisted for years. Not to sound like a broken record but we’ve been fed the line about how a deal is close to being finalized time and again, only for it to fall apart at the 11th hour. Quite frankly, I’d be more surprised if an agreement is reached than I would if it flounders for the umpteenth time.

Then again, the time may finally be right for a merger. We’re right on the brink of 5G, a new technology that’ll fully usher in the mobile revolution. T-Mobile has made serious waves in the mobile space ever since John Legere took over as CEO yet still, it’s only been enough to propel the company from fourth place to third in terms of customer count. By merging with Sprint, the combined company would have more than 127 million customers and be in a better position to compete with industry leaders Verizon and AT&T who hold the number one and number two spots, respectively.

Of course, this is all contingent upon Deutsche Telekom and SoftBank, majority owners of T-Mobile and Sprint, successfully coming to terms at the negotiating table. And before we can even get to the juicy details of how the combined company would be run and who would be in charge, the deal would have to clear significant regulatory hurdles.

A huge smack in the face of AT&T and Verizon.

T-Mo has no coverage across huge swaths of the US and Sprint has almost none outside urban areas with populations of at least 20,000. The combined company will need to seriously expand its footprint if it hopes to compete seriously with Heckle and Jekyll.

I've been with T-mobile since 11/17 First bill was $79, sent back two phone via FedEx Express to them directly. They told me both returned phones were there. After that month with auto pay on and two newer phones would bring the bill to $90. They kept charging me for extra cell phone made the bill $99.63. This kept going on for 6 months without let up. So I had turned off auto-pay removed my CC and told them I will not pay until you fix my account. I would sent back the current phones without any penalty and cancel their service. This didn't go well with them. Exec CS in USA took over my case. Told me they have credited my account and have removed the second cell phone. But one thing they have overlooked the extra charges I had to pay out. So it had taken a Exec CS in Philippines to fixed the account to $80 this month. Now next month is only $42 bucks. I had stood my ground with them. Just like I did with Comcast as well. These companies just don't play fair with you money in this case mine. T-mobile merge with Sprint, might make coverage better or worst. The bill better not go higher than it suppose to be set with their Auto-pay in place.

I've been with AT&T since Noah hoisted the first antenna. Didn't do a lot of travel, but everywhere we went the little lamb (aka AT&T) was already there.
