TechSpot Dark Mode is now available to everyone

It is available to everyone. Its not locked behind a paid account. All you do is make a account n you have the option. Your making a big deal out of nothing.
Again, none of this was hidden and was explained in the full article. The title is accurate as that is true. The article explains what you do to have dark mode as a option. Which is simply making a FREE account.

If you dont like it or the site then dont use it.

The title is not inaccurate or misleading. Why would anyone that doesn't have an account expect any features?

If Dark Mode is not available to everyone. Who doesn't have $0 to get it?

That is like saying GoG games are never free and available to everyone. Because they would need to first create a free account to get them. If you are too lazy or paranoid to create an account. Well that is your problem, but the item is still available to you should you want it.

Actually I like regular more for reading, too. For watching videos say on YouTube, I’m all in for dark mode.

I feel like the current blue should be made little darker so it does not blend with other variations of the Techspot blue.

so from #26323d to #1e272f
or something like that, only tad bit darker imho.

@Julio Franco I set this in my account, and I was expecting that the setting would persist from login session to login session, but this is not happening - even on the same computer. Is it supposed to stay set at the account level?

It’s cookie based. And it persists on the same computer. But if you logout all cookies are erased or reset.
OK. Thanks. Personally, I do not allow other than session cookies for my security/privacy (it is better than that tin foil hat I used to wear  ). Honestly, I think that doing so is the better way to go for security/privacy reasons for anyone.

So, it seems I will have to turn this on each time I login to TS.

EDIT: it seems inconsistent. It seems persistent without cookies in the forums area, but on the main page and others, it does not persist - which, unless it is just my having been poisoned by that tin-foil hat , indicates that there is some account-based persistence depending on the area of TS one is viewing.

That is correct, I was oversimplifying. We have two backends and the forum works on its own way. But the main site is 100% cookie based, while the forum does save the setting in your profile. The end result is that for non-custom setups (with cookies, and so forth), you click on the dark mode setting on/off and it will act globally. We haven't developed more deeply than that because most users don't need it, but we may improve this in the future.

Thanks for verifying my sanity.

I, for one, would welcome that improvement.
