Tesla sales in Europe plunge 50% amid backlash over Musk and competition from hybrids, Chinese brands

I agree. Personally, I think the competition was bound to "catch up" with Tesla, and now, there are more (and better) options available in most every market.
How are they better? Have you even been in a new Tesla vehicle anytime recently? Tesla introduces new features and it takes other automakers years to copy just a few of those features, like integrated karaoke lol.

Even with Carplay or Android Auto, other infotainment systems are actually worse than Tesla’s. They’re all slow in comparison, none of them have self-driving built in, integrated dashcams, any real computing power, and more. Tesla includes every major audio app (including Audible), and rear seats passengers have their own touchscreen (even with their own audio output using bluetooth headphones, ie. streaming video or separate music). Tesla basically has the most comfortable seats on the market, as far as I know they’re the only ones with AC vents that go through the steering wheel (so your face and chest can actually be cooled), they have adjustable and cooled rear seats on the base Model Y, and all their windows are laminated (dual pane).

I recently drove the Chinese BYD Seal-U on a trip to Italy. The car might as well have been retained in Beta phase of development. The UI had grammatical errors, and a generally unrefined look with translations into English that weren’t completely as they should be. The gauge cluster was busy beyond belief, almost like a smart phone. It did however have a range of 1000 km. But hey, at least the price is right for the Europeans, amiright?

Personally I'd rather take a more trusted brand when I go electric - like Toyota (where quality means something). Tesla is known for very bad quality and very bad support.

Don't know if I would want to buy a BYD vehicle. You know buried in the software somewhere has to be a remote kill switch. <wink>
For a Chinese price, I would risk it :). They are so cheap (thanks to generous subsidies) there, that if they were brought to the US without tariffs, most Ev makers would lose 60% of their customers.

Tesla has no real "features", touchscreens are not what you think when talking about cars. All that you mentioned can be put in normal cars too.

"has the most comfortable seats on the market" - now I know you are just trolling.

Objectively Tesla cars are bad cars with comically bad build quality, cheap materials, fake specifications and expensive for what they do.

FYI how is that gen 4 upgrade going for you after they told you that gen 3 is not going to get the full self-driving anymore? after they told you to upgrade to gen 3 from gen 2 for full self driving? after they told the exact same thing about gen 2?

A bit more on the competition Tesla is facing in Europe. Not only is there now some actually good Chinese cars, there is good choices from really all the classic car brands. And there is even great smaller/cheaper offerings, like for example the Renault 5 from prices that not so much different than the Slate (yet, they are not nearly as spartan as the Slate).
The EV market in Europe is much bigger than the US one, so therefore there is also much more choice.

You make it sound like you are talking about an entertainment system and not a car. Much of what Tesla has to offer is gimmicks, not features anyone uses more than once or twice.

And Tesla doesn't have the best seat, not even close. I think that Volvo is the benchmark for seats and it has been like that for decades. Nor are their quality anything special just okay at best, plus their cars are build so that fixing a small dent cost an arm and a leg since all parts are gigantic - fine when building, but not when maintaining.
And then there is the resale value issue, it was never great and now it is a disaster - worse than the Chinese.

I wouldn't buy one either. It's too early to trust cars from them, too new.
Same thing happened in the 70's when they imported inexpensive Japanese
cars. Most were junk, but they improved. Doubt if the same thing would happen
with the Chinese cars though.

Yeah, like Farts for turn signal sounds. Did Musk ever make it out of Grade School? FFS.

And what about having to pay extra to have Tesla enable the full range of the vehicle? IMO, Buying a Tesla would be like asking to be screwed ripped off.

And all that news about the self-driving experience really makes me want to have a Tesla./s
