The Best Gaming Monitors

An article about best gaming monitors without a 240hz panel? How? Sometimes I wonder if Im the only guy that cant use anything else apart from 240hz. It is BY FAR the best gaming experience I ever had due to the smoothness and motion clarity, and even 144hz now seem choppy to me

I have an HP Omen 27" 165hz 1440p 1MS G-sync monitor, and its been worth every penny.
Got it for $400 when it was $679 on Amazon, now the prices have all dropped some.

This doesn't make sense.

This article is titled "Best Gaming Monitor" yet you fail to list the best gaming monitor for esports - which would have to be a 240hz panel like the Zowie XL2546.

This doesn't make sense.

Why it doesnt make any sense? Did you actually ever try a 240hz panel? I guess you didnt so you still live on the kind of "human eye cant see/feel more than <insert fps or hz or miliseconds input lag/persistence here> " mentality.

Making an article about gaming monitors and ignoring the persistence advantages of a 240hz in 2018 makes no sense to me. Also enjoy your Omen panel full of input lag compared to other competitors.

After you use 144hz for some time you have problems using 60hz, fact. After using 240hz you cant go back to 144hz as you will actually notice the lower motion clarity, fact. But you never used one so you dont know. People that use 60hz for years doesnt know whats smoother than that so they can live with it. Moore's law. But 240hz is objectively the best gaming experience you can have right now.

I completely fell in love with my Alienware AW3418DW and highly recommend it to anyone looking to do some ultrawide gaming. I did pay considerably more for mine than is listed here though. It ticks all of the most important features I required:
  • 32" +
  • Ultrawide
  • 3440x1440+
  • 100 Hz+
  • G-Sync
  • IPS
  • Decent Warranty

"Back in the day", industry "experts" would say you can't see anything higher than 60Hz... It's quite hilarious that people really can see the difference and they kept telling us otherwise. I always ran at 75 or 85 Hz when I could because 60Hz hurt my eyes.

Thank you for the article! It is nice to see in one place the state of the monitor offerings and prices. It looks like my old clunker will need to hold for a while. If 4k gaming prices can come down from the clouds, I will build a whole new rig and monitor.

Point taken. Feedback is appreciated. We have added an eSports category for 240Hz monitor recommendations. We picked the Asus ROG PG258Q which we reviewed last year and seems to remain a big favorite, along with mentions to a few other competing models from Viewsonic and BenQ.

I am very pleased with my 3412UM, very smooth with HDMI output. Only small quirk is in black movie scenes , IPS panels have somewhat of a backlight bleed problem.

So some night scenes from Jurassic World - Fallen Kingdom and Sicario Day Of The Soldado are very hard to make out. Not a problem with Viotek VA panels. I believe they got their VA panel from Samsung, repackage and sold with all perks intact.

Have I need another ultrawide or a friend needed recommendation I would go for that.

I had a similar experience with an old P-MVA monitor I used to have - excellent black levels and great for watching movies on.

The reason why you see things like this happen is the spread of incomplete data leads to misinformation sharing and forums or social media become an easy place for people to "share"=infect the things they think they know. Many of the great quotes from old tech leaders are taken completely out of context such as the 24Hz/60Hz or the 640 kb of RAM statements. These things become jokes or memes and people don't know how to or don't have the time to trace these things back to their origin but can be quickly shared via a simple, quick image.

I wonder how many people I'm going to infect with that image

I bought the AW3418DW specifically because it matches my Alienware Triad Corei9ex desktop. The Alien FX app allows you to integrate the computer into RGB themes easily.

I am using it right now.

the display is brilliant, sharp and the contrast is perfect.

I love the build quality, the weight of the feet and their sweep.

I never thought I'd be a "dell" lover, but they really do put tremendous thought into their chassis and products nowadays.

There are 4 USB ports and a speaker 3.5mm jack.

If I'd have changed anything, I'd have added a small camera to the bezel with digital crop software.

It has no speakers, which is understandable.

This article was written in the dark ages/past. I think Techspot needs a new approach on what gamer want. And it is not what is being shoved down our throats. I gave up CRT gaming 20 years ago and we still aren't back there yet. Why should gamers be regulated to 27" displays..? Gamer's get older and can afford more of what they like/do. Ten years of gaming, even a college dude respects himself enough to have a Computer/Gaming desk.

At the center of it all, is our displays. Doesn't matter if you have a $3k rig, you don't stare at that while gaming, or using your system. It is the Monitor that matters most, day to day. Period!

I have two high end gaming monitors 32" WQHD and 34" UWQHD and they are both lacking TODAY's technology. Where are all the Standards at..?

Where are all the HDMI 2.1, or DP 1.4 gaming Monitors at..?? (Do an investigation into that!)

Yet you're still calling yourself 144hzGamer?

Well, as a 'gamer', the Dell 34" monitor mentioned in this article is exactly what I want- and own.

"Why should gamers be regulated to 27" displays..?"

The Dell is a 34" monitor, or you can buy any sized 4K TV and use that. Nothing is being "shoved down your throat" lol.

Let's hear about your from-the-future GPU that can push 8K60 or 4K120. Or better yet, just relax. Neither HDMI 2.1 or DP 1.4 are going to make your life better.
