The FBI wants telecom companies to install secret eavesdropping technology‏

According to interviews with government sources conducted by CNET security reporter Declan McCullogh, the FBI is pressuring telecom carriers like AT&T and Verizon to install “port reader” software that would allow the agency to intercept and analyze communication streams in real-time.

I guess from hereon in, every Govt (read their security agencies) will be doing similar things when it comes to modern means of communications.

In light of all this snooping,I bought a out of country vpn. I read you need a vpn router to stop endpoint detection. is this true?

I believe it will make packet sniffing/data snooping etc. pretty difficult, plus the benefit of anonymity.
