The iPhone 8 has the weakest sales figures of any iPhone in years, according to market...

....Yes there are sub-$500 Android devices but they tend be less than garbage. Small, low-end hardware, not the best screen, limited storage capacity and not even an SDCard slot, etc. Yeah, they're cheap but there's a reason why they're cheap; because they're a piece of crap.
well my $500 CAD ($390 USD) Android 7.0 phone has good hardware, an 1920 x 1080 AMOLED screen (~ 424 ppi), is IP68 certified with a headphone jack and USB C port, came from the factory with 32 GB, takes up to a 256 GB microSD and has a 3000 mAh battery, I can tell you it's some piece of crap
Now you tell me I should pay $1319 to $1529 CAD for a ****ing phone???
and if I disagree I'm an elitist??

I would never buy a device like that, that's a low-end device. If I was in the market for an Android device it would have to be a top of the line Samsung Galaxy or Note device. Nothing but the best hardware.

well if you are a phone enthusiast, knock yourself out as the saying goes, it's your money after all. I think it's wiser to buy the least phone that meets your needs considering their lifespan, (battery, technological change, fragility). If having a flagship phone makes your day though....go for it!

It's not whether or not it has happened it's when it will happen. Security has taken a back seat to just about everything until it's too late. Security must be taken seriously every time. The moment you let your guard down is the moment the bad guys will get you.
Fear mongering to the nth degree. Thanks for making that clear.

Tell that to Equifax and the hundreds of companies that have been hacked along with the thousands of IoT devices that have been used to spy on people's homes through unpatched Internet "security" cameras.

Security and patches must be taken seriously or people will lose faith in their digital devices.
