Top 10 Best MMOs

Warhammer Online is still going and as good as ever; TOR is probably my overall favorite. TES Online got the heave when it repeatedly tried to reinstall the entire game; that's a no-go.

I'm impressed to find RuneScape listed here. Usually, I don't find it listed on these kinds of lists.

My favourite dead game. Bad balance, with chaos always smashing order, a lot of bugs, and only 2capitols. But it was hell of fun.
Went to guild wars after and it was a blast. Great game, kinda scratch a bit Warhammer tune.

Good grief steam/pc gaming is wasteland when these ancient games are "the best MMO's". many of these feature playstation one graphics, have been abandoned, and likely have only been played by 40 year olds in their moms basement for decades. kind of looks like the steam most played list in that respect (counter strike, lol, the epitome of basement 40 yr old cool in 2021, this is 1992 right?)

pc's, man.

We're sorry you regret buying a console but its just sad seeing you try to justify the wasted money.

Many of these "older" games are better than the majority of the games that came out in the last few years. Hell, Eve Online even looks better than them even though it came out 18 years ago.

Looks like the listing for Final Fantasy XIV has not been updated since it was written ha ha ha, it might be worth pointing out that the free trial (https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/na/) for the game has been expanded. While it still restricts some ways in which the player can interact with others (joining free companies, accessing the marketboard, etc), a trial player gains access to all the content of A Realm Reborn and Heavensward, which includes having jobs up to level 60. Basically, they get to play the original game and the first expansion for free.

Oh, and the next expansion (Endwalker) is expected to drop sometime Fall of this year (2021).

I used to play Star Wars Galaxies until it died. Then I tried out Second Life and had great success in it. I was one of, if not the, most popular DJs in Second Life for almost two years before I got tired of it. Then I tried Star Trek Online when it was new because I love the Starships but it was buggy as hell and I decided not to play it anymore.

I have NEVER tried WoW and never will. It's not because I don't think that it's good, it's because it may be TOO good. I've heard of people getting so addicted to it that it has serious negative effects on their real lives. It's the same reason that I won't ever try hard drugs. As long as I don't know what I'm missing, I'm safe. In this case, ignorance isn't just bliss, it's freedom.

TLDR if someone else already mentioned it, but ESO also has a subscription service - ESO Plus. This gives you certain gameplay bonuses that makes your life a bit easier and it also unlocks the DLC's without buying them individually.

Open your window and look outside!

Graphics: Old school, but charming

Pay Model: Do whatever necessary to survive (work, steal, beg...)

Asherons Call was great. I miss those late 90s early 2000 mmo.

I'm also surprised so few people remember Dark Age Of Camelot.

First rule of the DAoC club is.......
Yeah, best 3 sided war ever. Still a few private servers around. Kind of miss WH Online too.

Yeah, just go read Tenets of the game & see the pedigree of the Game, then come back...
The cycle of literally every MMO:

-Gets announced
-Gains the favor of a chunk of WoW's playerbase that is tired/fed up with WoW's current vision
-Gets praised as a "WoW killer"
-Once it releases, MMOChampion and other similar websites are flooded by people that give all glory and honor to the new game since it's so much better than WoW
-It stabilizes, players come and go, and the hardcore crowd chills out a bit
-(OPTIONAL) The game fails because its whole appeal is being a "WoW killer"

It's irrelevant what "pedigree of the game" that is. Anyone making such claims this early on is in denial. Looking at the game as well, it doesn't seem like anything revolutionary...

Why mention WoW..? *laughing*

Have you ever heard of EverQuest..? Well Pantheon is "EQ2"... by the same Creator. He has taken best elements of Everquest and Vanguard with even deeper crafting and Player Character Roles.

Your cynicism is noted by the fact you didn't go read, or educate yourself. WoW is a kids game...

Lol.... you accuse someone of ignorance yet call WoW a kids game.... it’s only the most popular MMORPG of all time - it’s not even close... and no, the majority of players are adults, so it’s not a kids game.

No, I accused him of only knowing WoW and using that as some barometer of goodness.... when in fact, it became popular because it was dumbed-down version of EQ for children.

Everyone knows this... it is not news.

I beta tested World of Warcraft and my whole guild played it when it came out... and 6 month later Completed the WHOLE game.... all powder puff.... then went back to EQ.

Sounds like you can't take criticism. I played handful of MMOs (Rift, GW2, Aion, SWTOR, WoW ofc, LOTRO, Wildstar, Rift) and yet they are all the same claiming they are something more.

This game won't get the numbers, this game isn't redefining the MMO genre and this game isn't all the "hype" you are trying to paint. I watched the footage and it looks awful, it won't age well, the abilities are too WoW like and it won't be the "next big thing" nor will it put a dent in the MMO industry. Less of the games fault, more of the industry.

If the community is anything like your posting, then it will be just as toxic as WoW.

Yeh 6 months to complete the game, okaaay den.

Then at least stop making assumptions. Yes it was dumbed down, of course it was. Not because it was for kids (mate you are playing games, all bloody games are for kids unless stated otherwise by publisher).

The old era of EQ and Ultimate simply does not work in modern age for the better or worse. It's like watching paint dry imho. Sure if you like it, good for you, but majority of gamers, they simply don't want that. They want good PVE/PVP design which most of these MMOs lack.

Lol - you do know that WoW constantly adds more content, right?
You haven’t completed the “whole game” - no one has... there are expansion sets... again, your opinion vs the millions who still play and enjoy it...

Yeah, I am well aware that most people do not like MMORPGs and like MMOs and other style of games.

That is why I said if you like MMORPGs... then look at Pantheon. It's will be a subscription based game, based on Gameplay and Character development. That is what has been missing in the true MMORPG space and is the only true to form design in over 20 years...

How is LOTRO "a few pay options?"

every town you go in and want to do its PAY MORE
an emote? PAY MORE
want to enter the forest? PAY MORE
how about a new weapon? PAY MORE
A new hat? PAY MORE

and the hilarious thing is standing stone has those LOTRO *****s hook line and sinker.
and its ****ing hilarious.
