Why it matters: Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has stepped down from his role as chief executive officer. CNBC was first to report the rumor, which was just confirmed in an press release from Twitter. Share value in the social networking platform popped on the news before trading was halted.

Dorsey, along with a host of others including Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams, launched Twitter in mid-2006. He was the company’s original CEO but transitioned to board chairman a couple of years later. He was again named CEO in late 2015 after Dick Costolo left following a six-year run.

Twitter's board has unanimously appointed CTO Parag Agrawal as Dorsey's replacement and a member of the board, effective immediately. Dorsey will remain on the board until his term expires in 2022.

Dorsey said he decided to leave Twitter because he believes the company is ready to move on from its founders. "My trust in Parag as Twitter's CEO is deep. His work over the past 10 years has been transformational. I'm deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It's his time to lead," said Dorsey.

Some have questioned the executive’s abilities to lead two major companies as CEO simultaneously. Just last year, Twitter stakeholder Elliott Management attempted to have Dorsey removed as CEO. Eventually, the investment firm reached an agreement with Twitter’s management and relented.

Twitter’s stock is currently trading at $48.67 on the news, not too far off its year-to-date- low of around $45. Share value in Square, meanwhile, is down 0.54 percent on the day.

See ya! I wonder if Parag is also an extreme leftist shill? Probably, most of these types don't know ANYTHING about how the world works. Ignorance and leftism go hand in hand.
Generalizing people and ignorance actually go hand-in-hand a lot more often...

Also... to the "writer" of this article (assuming it isn't simply cut-and-paste from another source), you can't just add "Square" stock price at the end without even a line or two mentioning Dorsey's relation to it...

Probably, if CTO means "Chief Technical Officer". There are precious few Silicon Valley nerds who aren't in lock-step with the progressive agenda. They really have no choice regardless of their personal beliefs - if they don't conform the leftists in Sacremento and DC will destroy their companies.

Pretty sure they will be ramping up the censorship, they have to, the narratives are all crumbling. A concentrated handful of big tech firms have quickly become the purveyors of progressive orthodoxy or something very similar to total state control over messaging. Sadly, a few friends and at least one family member have fallen victim to Twitter insanity, they can't separate it from the real world.

Or perhaps they know more about how the world works than you, and that is why they're busy running successful, transformative companies instead of anonymously whining about their many frustrations.

Of course, that's why Jack the Communist embraced him. The goal of the ultra rich is to bring us normal folk down to a level where we've begging the government to save us - all the while they can look down on us from their ivory towers and count their fortunes. That's why the rich mostly ascribe to leftism, not for the "greater good" as they would have you think. They are liars and fakes!

We are talking about Twitter right? It's basically the waste receptacle of everything wrong with humanity. Well, until TikTok and onlyfans came about. It doesn't take geniuses that know how the world works to run social media. In fact, social media is destroying our culture and creating far more problems for society. Case in point, dividing us further over every stupid issue.

I could tell he was overwhelmed after seeing him on the Joe Rogan podcast a while back. I feel sorry for the guy. It's better he left though. Social media got scummy way too fast and anyone that gets out should be considered lucky.

Twitter is deplorable because it’s heavily left wing biased. I will assume any new CEO is just another disgusting left wing fanatic until I see Twitter stop persecuting opinions and tweets of those in the right.

Still won’t sign up though, it’s not my bag. I just wish they didn’t hold the minecraft mob votes on there.

Twitter sucks... every time I want to post about how great Hitler is, or whenever I want to say how we should be exterminating Jews or Gays, they take down my posts...

That doesn’t make any sense, it’s left wing, Hitler was a socialist, and anti-semitism is rife on the left.
The Nazis may have called themselves National Socialists... but they were pretty much the modern definition of Fascist... that would be as far-right as you get.

As for anti-Semitism and homophobia - those are espoused by pretty much everyone...

Let me make this make since. Left and right are not a straight line, they are actually more like a circle. The more to the far right or the far left you go, the more they resemble one another. The left throws around the word fascism as if that is the only example of authoritarianism, meanwhile, we live in the most authoritarian era in US history. The left is pushing all of it, propaganda, suppression of dissent, and regimenting of society as if that is the way to protect us from a make believe "American fascism" and the "White supremacy" boogie man. And of course it doesn't hurt that they have indoctrinated a whole generation in extremely left leaning institutes of "higher" learning that seem to be more than willing to do their leftist duty, even when running major corporations.

Well, it all depends on how you define them... pretty much every ideology ends up turning into some sort of dictatorship - which is right-wing... just because you call your regime Communist, socialist, etc, doesn't make you left wing.

The far left has never existed in a modern government - the only examples we have are democracies (centre - Europe, North America, etc), Oligarchies (Right Wing - China) and dictatorships (Extreme Right - Russia, Middle East, etc).

The closest we probably ever had in the past 100 years were the kibbutzes in Israel - but they only really worked because they were so small and any "dissidents" were simply free to leave and join the rest of the country's democracy...

That you even believe there is a "left" movement in North America is almost laughable... the US government has moved more and more to the right of center in the past 50 years or so - probably as a reaction to the various "leftish" movements protesting racial treatment and Vietnam in the 60s and early 70s....

The "left" movements in existence today would probably be considered centrist or even slightly right-of-center by anyone living even a few decades ago...

“Successful, transformative companies”.

You realise we are talking about Twitter here? Have you seen the recent research on social media companies? These guys are up there with arms dealers, tobacco companies and Nestle!

You did not define anything, all you did was say everything you think is 'bad' is right and that there is this magical unicorn call 'left' that has never actually been tried because every time someone tries it it turns into right. Pretty much a load of garbage.

Apparently, reading comprehension is not one of your strengths... I said "it depends on HOW you define them".

But fine, here are MY definitions if you must have them...

The Right, by definition, favours more rules, regulations, etc. Taken to the extreme, you have a dictatorship where all individual freedoms are subsumed to the state. The left is generally defined as individualistic... when it comes to running a nation, the extreme left would be "anarchy" - which obviously would not be very useful in a government - where the entire purpose is to provide rules for people!

Extreme left and extreme right are both terrible... I'm not saying either one is better than the other... I just find it insane reading all this nonsense about the "leftish agenda" and "leftish propaganda"....

This is complete and utter garbage. The right today in modern countries favour free markets and the left favour rent controls, more taxation, more controls for local government. More rules and regulations in general. Left wingers are always pushing to cancel people for saying the wrong pronouns or for general speech and you think they want less rules? What’s wrong with you?

Typically right wingers want less government involvement and left wingers want their government to provide everything for peoples lives.

In addition to this great response, right is defined by conservatism and natural human order (ie, family, traditions, religious freedom) and the left by progressivism which really just means to break with natural human orders as they are "social constructs" to try to achieve a lofty goal of equity, which they don't even know what that means themselves because it can't really exist in reality

I don't see how one could argue that social media has been anything but incredibly successful, or that it has not had a profound impact on society. And while I personally feel that it is a huge net negative, that was not the point I was making.

That said, I do enjoy seeing the right wing persecution complex in effect. Any platform that has even the most minimal standards for decorum, such as not allowing the posting of threats, flagrant lies, or insults to groups of people for things they were born with and have no control over, is pretty much automatically called hostile to people on the right. Hey, if your opinions can't be expressed without breaking their platform rules, maybe it's just time to find another platform. Or maybe, just maybe, reconsider them altogether (as if..).

And as long as people continue to whine loudly about SJW, wokeness, critical race theory, cancel culture and other such non-issues, I think we're actually doing pretty okay. Let's be thankful they don't seem to have any real problems.
