Just imagine the Linkedin post for Twitter roles: "are you a hardcore worker and want to work 12 hours a day and get paid for 8? come join us !!"

When the company was so bloated and run badly while bleeding money that he had to get rid half the woke and deadbeats. And welcome to being salaried, It happens. I tend to think some of them were only putting in 20hr weeks.

You don't seem to understand how salary pay works. The entire point is to work people more than 40 hours.

On one hand I hate to see anyone lose their job. Even crazy entitled brats need to eat and pay bills. On the other hand I see why Elon would do what he's doing. I mean everyone knows that the company wasn't operating at 100% and largely because of the woke culture there. Only the entitled gen z types would be offended at the idea of working hard or being expected to come to the office to do their jobs. Seems to me that the people working there seem to believe that Twitter is there for them and not the other way around. Welcome to the world of survival where no one owes you anything.

LOL somebody's mad.

"educated specialists" LMFAO I'm sure the dudes in net leggings who spent all day spending twitter's $1.5bn in research funds on starbucks and trigger warnings were doing a lot. How will twitter ever cope without them? It takes thousands to run a fancy SMS app after all!

EDIT: also, you can't say "learn to code", twitter said that's racist and banned it years ago.
yeah, educated specialists, you know, those guys with knowledge and skills which allow them safely change their job even during recession, those, who you're so jealous of because you can't comprehend they do not want to work overtime only because person at charge wishes so.

I know that you have no idea what those guys are doing, and your fantasy about their netted leggings are part of your delusion;)
And sure, twitter will be fine with 20% of original staff. Why aren't you manager yet?:D
fancy SMS app...;D I do not know (and don't wanna to) what are you doing for living, but whatever it is with such awesome analysis skills I'm not surprised you have to 'work your balls off'. Seems like the thing on the other end wouldn't help much;)

And I can say whatever I want. You know, freedom of speech and similar things you seem not to be aware off. I mean you most probably are VERY vocal in about the freedom of speech thingy (if it affects you), unless it is about people who changing their job because they do not agree to the condition. In that case they do not exercise their freedom, but they are most probably leftist snowflakes in netted leggings... hahaha;D

It's mad how many people are in support of that guy in the comment section. No employee should ever work as hard as the guy who owns the company because the compensation isn't the same. Don't get me wrong, employers are very happy to find people like that but if you're one of the morons who is breaking their back for somebody else's success it's on you.

For the people who are saying this is good for Twitter, it ain't. There are so many software dev jobs out there it's crazy. And most of them now are work-from-home chill places. So it will be very hard for Elon to find people to replace the ones that left when your conditions suck. I'm sure there is some element of him trying to get rid of some people but I doubt he wanted this many to be out and that loud so everyone knows how **** it is to work for Twitter now.

Also, I live in Ireland, and this billionaire is asking for people to go back to the office in Dublin... amongst the biggest housing crises in Ireland ever, impossible to find a place to rent in Dublin atm for a decent price. He is completely lost in this Twitter business. Done some great things but it's just proof that no matter who you are, you cannot be good at everything. Also, his spending this much time on Twitter is no doubt going to lead to problems in his other endeavors.
IMO.... Twitter is becoming real. With real people who have real opinions they feel is worth listening to.

ie:
The subscription makes Twitter more attractive to real people, because they can easily weed out all the bots & noise.

Apparently their entire group of employees were woke and out of touch with reality. I understand some things Musk is doing might be borderline legal but what ***** (apparently lots of them) calls out their boss/owner in public then defies orders thinks there won't be repercussions? The woke is really waking up to reality.
think for a second.
Entire group of employees are very well in touch in reality, because it is easy to find a job for a programmer right now. Sure, market have a slowdown, but even now Germany needs so many developers they consider hiring Russians.
Second, knowing your worth is not being woke.
What Musk is doing maybe legal in US, but Twitter offices are across whole world. In Ireland where I live it isn't legal to require a worker to work more than 37 hours a week. And it is still legal to change the job.
And you know what, it is still legal to call someone in public, if you do not defame that person. And the fact this person is a boss or billionaire really do not matter.
If you by any chance talking about discussion some employee had with him about the performance, remember as well who started to publicly call the developers there. If someone takes subject to the public forum, then it is not surprising to have response there as well.

The single most surprising part in the free market reality is that someone decided to change his job because he is not happy with conditions and number of people got mad, or overusing word 'woke' like some magic spell. It is like those people are pure communists - you need to work for a greater good! you need to work hard and listen to your master or else! Don't try to make your life the way you want, because only woke people do so! Do overtimes when asked and never act against billionaire authority!

Guys, situation is simple. New owner pushes new rules. People who don't like those rules leave the job and gets a new one. Life's going on. And if you have problem with that, then you're the problem.

Is 40 hour weeks considered "hardcore" for America or something? If so, **** the UK, I'm moving to America!
these days? yeah pretty much.

while I was looking for a better job one of the first questions I was asked was "are you willing to put in the time?", followed by "will you come into the office?"

those were first before qualifications or anything else, you can legit get a job above your skillset now if youre just able to and want to get to the f*****g bldg, its wild over here.

The rage-quit factor is quite telling. Appears the headcount was rife with do nothing, freeloaders.

"And if you have problem with that, then you're the problem."
Period

At-Will Employment. It's a thing!

40 hours is the standard work week for most full time employed people.

Depending on your job and if you're hourly or salaried, you could work more or less. I know some people that are salary and they're putting 50+ hours a week and even a few that barely work 40 hours a week. I know a lot of people that are hourly and put in 50-60 hours a week, so any time working past 40 hours is overtime pay (1.5x your hourly rate).

It also can vary from state to state and/or by company, but the general rule is 40 hours is a standard work week.

It is not his (Twitter's) responsibility to worry about Ireland's woes. Do we know he is not following legalities in Ireland? If 37 hours is the limit then he would have to honor that but still can request more time. Like is 37 to 40 is outlandish. I all hear is woke defaming Musk, so lets not kid ourselves. You STILL have to come to the office. You don't want to work more than 37hrs, find another job. Welcome to reality. I don't care for how he is doing certain things either but but maybe a lot of it is necessary.

Well, with these recent moves we'll get confirmation if Musk is a genius or a run of the mill ***** with too much money. Interesting commendatory this morning noted that with all his Engineers having left, if Twitter crashes for any reason, he has nobody with the knowledge or experience to bring it back on line. And do you think there is more than one hacker that see's this as a new goal? My money is on everybody other than Musk .....

That's where we are at my company, we are so short staffed simply being able to show up and pass a drug test is paramount. We will train anyone so long as they're willing to put in the hours

Those poor twitter employees, being forced to work to justify their 6 figure sums. I feel SOOOOO bad for them 😢.

Welcome to the real world snowflakes. The rest of us have been working our balls off to recover from the 2008 recession, the 2020 lockdown, and the 2021 inflation crisis. Now you gotta work too, no more sitting on golden chairs in ivory towers complaining about ~isms and ~phobics. The bourgeoisie never think they will become the next proletariat

If you were working 76 hour work weeks you'd quit too... BUT recall they are opting to receive 3 months severance, selling their free stock options to go find a better job so they are winning all the way to the bank $LOL$

The rage-quit factor is quite telling. Appears the headcount was rife with do nothing, freeloaders.

Nope .. rule#1 in massive corporate layoffs .. the 1st ones laid off get the best packages. And get to sell all their free stock and RSU's at a elevated price.

The SMART ones are ejecting with severance, free stock and RSU sales and will simply go to work at Mastadon, or some other twitter clone and win all day.

Anyone who understands business tactics knows what Musk is doing. It's called thinning out the herd. He is getting rid of Twitters dead weight and he's being the same kind of nice about it that the Twitter exec's were when he tried to back out of the buyout deal. They lied to him about Twitters overall actual value and then forced him to finish the deal. Now they have to live with the results of their own foolishness. Poetic justice.

The chaff at Twitter are getting exactly what they earned.

@ Elon Musk,
Carry on Captain! Carry on!

Lets be clear .. He doesn't code, he doesn't ''work'' he is the laziest one there atm. .. all he is doing is trying to be a big scary big-bad that comes off incompetent in meetings then effs off to get a foot massage, and drink 100$ bottles of water.

HE IS THE BIGGEST DEAD WEIGHT at Twatter right now
