Ubisoft says $70 is now the standard price for its "big AAA games"

Never buying new releases. Always wait for the sale when it reaches 50% off to 80 or 90% off sale. I can wait for the price to come down. I have other games to play until the price comes down. Not going to be a sucker to buy new games at bloated prices on day 1. And with Epic free games, I'm too busy to buy games nowadays.

70 for preordering a game that will launch with zero day patches... No, thanks... I only buy games after they matured a little, at least 2 months after launch and only if I really into the hype... Most games I only buy on sale, when it's half the launch price...

The comments are worth it.

its funny(to me) how gamers want the most cutting edge of graphics and everything else, a constant stream of new, glitch free games on every platform from devs who work in magical workplaces.

yet dont wanna pony up the dough.

and then wander why the devs and pubs nickel and dime them for everything.

There games don't need to be as big as they are, Odyssey could not include the boat combat or those regions and still be as good/sufficent in size I would argue - lots less work.

And yet...it's part of a wide, expansive game. By your logic, devos should just have a linear, simple game that's completed in @ 20 hours. That's fine. There are some games like that out there that are done well. I respect that. At the same time, I enjoyed all aspects of Odyssey immensely. One aspect was sailing the seas and dominating on the Adrestia with Barnabas. Traveling to (figure out how) to meet and then fight legends like Medusa, the Minotaur, cyclops (x3!), etc. was amazing. And getting to talk to Socrates along the way...I loved it!

Oh, and all of it didn't cost me more than $10. A Steam Christmas sale a few years after the title came out. Prices will come down from $70. If not, I won't bite. At $10...sure I'll try, especially if the game has good reviews. If it's a stinker, oh well. Yet, the breadth, depth, and detail in Odyssey were winners for me.

The $60 price tag was already excessive
Yeah sure, it is decade old probably but gaming audience is way bigger now. Easier for the them to turn a profit. And expansions - dlc are like a standard as well

And if we see it from a consumer's point of view ... well with 70$ there are other options, in gaming and in other areas, for entertainment.

Game dev costs money, we can all agree on that...But if we get the game price, you think 100% goes for the devs, artists, and everybody that REALLY worked to make the game come to life...? You are forgeting the publisher share, Steam 30% share... These are the costs that don't add any value to the game itself...

How many games demand a $60 (now $70) initial price yet carve up their stories and systems with expensive launch DLC or greedy preorder bundles? How many games fill themselves with repetitive low-effort content that forces gamers to grind through for the sake of having enough "gameplay time"? How many games constantly fool their customers and players with deceptive marketing and false promises that are broken from the start but press blackouts and non-production custom code prevent potential customers from realizing the scams they are being fooled into buying? How many games install invasive DRM on their customers's PCs only to result in a high rate of errors and bugs yet provide inconsistent and slow support? How many games are released with a tsunami of launch bugs that are often not fixed for months and months?

(Cyberpunk 2077, anyone?)

If there is a reason that gamers don't wanna pony up the dough, it is because the game industry has trained them intensively and repeatedly for 20 years to be cautious and not trust developers at first sight.

There are a few rare games from developers that do none of these dirty tactics that no one seems to have problems paying full price for. I am thinking of games like Rimworld.

No need for you to shill for this industry.

the industry hasnt trained gamers to do anything, actually gamers are worse than ever for buying whatever is tossed in front of them, still snatching preorders a year in advance cause they saw a "cinematic" trailer, still hyping up an idea that a dev whispered during a meeting, loudly shouting thats unfair while they unsheath their credit cards behind them.

do you really think all the bs that gets crammed in games to make money is just tossed in there for no reason? heck no it isnt, but the crap has stayed around and gotten worse because you oh so smart gamers keep constantly proving that its right to use it, also, how in the world can people balk at a 70 dollar game when f2p games with battlepasses and other crap will make that sum seem miniscule in the long run.

but its always been like this, sony gave people the ps3 with everything they asked for but because they actually wanted money for it everyone cried so over its lifetime they snatched all those features off and it ended its life as slide-top plastic box, skip ahead to the ps4 and they played you all by making you buy a normal launch system then pay again for a pro while you all clapped and looked like fools.

ubi can release one 70 dollar game with dlc and all gamers have to do is NOT BUY IT, to prove a point and that would change everything, but that wont happen, it never has and never will, because gamer/techie people are gullible and easily separated from their money.

So you are complaining that gamers are making valid complaints about games and then you are complaining that they are buying games without any self-restraint.

Which one is it that you are angry about? 🙄

Ubisoft might as well be named erection-soft ..... and are just about as useful ....
Fitting, yet unfortunate, phrase for a company notorious for their sexual harassment allegations, misconduct, and sexism. I highly recommend anyone who wants to interact with this unsavory organization read about the employee interviews conducted by writer Jason Scheier on Ubisoft's long history of abusing their workers.
