Unable to access USB drives in Vista

I've located the guide/tutorial on this site regarding USB issues in Vista and it looks thorough. Maybe too thorough.

(I'm unable to link to the guide on this website because this i my first post...)

I just wanted to double check as to whether or not I should go through all its steps to solve my problem or if anyone can help me find a more precise solution.

I have a SATA drive in a USB enclosure. I'm currently using Vista ultimate. It previously read the USB drive with no problem. That is no longer the case. The drive is recognized within the Disk Management but is has no drive letter assigned to either partition (there are two) and I am unable to assign a drive letter.

Again, I am looking at the guide linked above and before i dive into registry editing, I wanted to make sure this was my best bet. Just double checking.

Thanks.

Since it's seen in Disk Management, try this first. See [post=875300]How to Cleanup and Remove old USB Storage Drivers[/post]
