Unable to connect to internet

I have ran into a problem with being able to connect to the internet. I am able to connect using the wireless connection but not using the wired connection. The router is a linksys wrtg54 and the computer is a dell dimension 3000 with xp installed. I have done just about everything I can for this to work but nothing. In the router application under status I can see the computer and the ip address the router issued for the pc but the ip address is not the same when I run ipconfig /all from the cmd prompt. The ip address that shows up is something like 169.125.**.** or of the sort. Any help will be appreciated.
 
The IP address that pops up is not 169.125.**.** it is 169.254.53.110 and it will not change. Even though everything is setup to acquire it automatically.
 
Enter each of the following. From: Start->Run->cmd

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /renew
net stop "DNS Client"
net start "DNS Client"

Also edit out the IP addy, from your post, and make it: 169.254.**.***
