In brief: Not everyone has heard of Clevo, a Taiwanese laptop manufacturer. But an absolute beast of a gaming laptop coming next year may well put the company on the map. Besides featuring cutting-edge components from both Intel and Nvidia, this machine promises insane specifications, including an 18-inch display and support for up to 192GB of RAM.

Most gamers would be happy with a dual-channel setup. However, this gaming laptop offers a staggering four DDR5 memory slots supporting up to a ludicrous 192GB of DDR5-5600 RAM.

Storage is equally over-the-top with four M.2 SSD 2280 slots. One of those supports the latest PCIe 5.0 x4 standard while the other three are PCIe 4.0 x4. You'll be able to load games at blistering speeds no matter which slots you use.

The 18-inch display will come in two flavors: a 4K panel and a 1440p option. Both support G-Sync variable refresh rates, but it's unclear if the 1440p model could offer higher refresh rates and response times geared for gaming. The bezels are thankfully slim to maximize that massive 18-inch viewing area.

Powering the laptop are Intel's just-announced Arrow Lake mobile CPUs – specifically, the high-wattage 55W Arrow Lake-HX chips. Supporting it is one of Nvidia's next-gen RTX 5000-series mobile GPUs based on the "GN22" board platform.

Very little is known about these GPUs yet, but a ransomware leak targeting Clevo previously revealed multiple specifications, including that the RTX 5090 would feature 16GB of VRAM. We assume that the laptop will feature this model since overkill specs call for an overkill GPU to go with them.

As for power, the laptop features a 98Wh battery with a claimed life of over 500 minutes. This will receive its juice from a full-range AC adapter rated 330W.

Connectivity seems solid too, with dual Thunderbolt 5 ports straight from the Nvidia GPU itself. If true, this would be one of the first laptops to feature Thunderbolt integrated into the graphics card instead of the CPU/chipset. You're also getting DisplayPort, HDMI, USB, dual ethernet, and even a 2-in-1 audio jack.

All these details come courtesy of a "whistleblower" spilling the beans to the Chinese tech site ITHome. There's no word yet on pricing or availability, but Clevo is expected to officially unveil this crazy gaming laptop at CES 2025 in January, likely alongside Nvidia's full RTX 5000-series GPU lineup.

18 inch laptops are getting kinda silly at this point. I mean, I kinda get it for people who have to down size and don't have room for a full blown desktop, but they are NOT a LAPtop.
These things are behemoths and are more like a portable PC than a laptop.

And all the is fine, but there is a reason I'm pointing this out. This has been a growing trend the last few years and these things are not portable. Both my work and travel laptops are both 15 incher's. I would not want to lug around an 18 inch laptop on planes or in and out of hotels, forget about throwing them in a backpack.

And one final note, don't be THAT GUY that brings your 18 inch RGB gaming laptop to meetings.

Nobody cares about laptop gaming.

Every laptop in the world needs to be plugged in to game, there is no reason to have a GPU driven laptop, they are for mobile productivity. Nobody is whipping out a computer chair and mousemat on a bus...

That is the reason HAND-HELDS have grown by 6,000% ovr the last 5 years. So u can game while walking down the street, on the bus, or in the backseat.

Gamers get NO VALUE in gaming on an expensive laptop vs spending the same on a PC and having superior components. These kids actually think their expensive laptop has a 4080 in it... lol

Guess what… nobody who starts a comment off with “nobody” is ever correct - irony check appreciated :)

There are still plenty who like to game on their laptops - value isn’t everyone’s need.

I own an Alienware 18 (used to have the old one with dual 880s, now have one with a 4090) and no, they aren’t super portable - but they CAN be taken from place to place (I’m a teacher and also use it on a cart with a projector).

They DO fit in a backpack (I still have the old Dell backpack made for the classic XPS 17” behemoth that it fits in perfectly), and don’t weigh nearly as much as they used to.

I usually use it plugged in, but there are times when I don’t - it can last about an hour on heavy load (aka gaming) and a bit over 2 hours when doing normal stuff (aka a movie).

There’s no need to ridicule a product just because it doesn’t service your particular needs - there are over 8 billion people out there and everyone has the right to own stuff they want 😀

You couldn't be more wrong. The laptop segment of the gaming market (laptops with a dGPU) has been steadily increasing and is now at over 50%, so it's basically you that stick to your bulky desktops that are losing ground.

Nobody expect to game on a bus or even less so on an airplane. You can bring it with you to a hotel, to a friend, your working home or whatever, and there is a plug available. You can also move it from room to room in your own home. A few hours of easier tasks like browsing, mail and office apps is what the battery is for.

And no, almost nobody thinks they have a "real" 4080 in their laptop, but it performs like a "real" 4070, and generally one tier below these days. We laptop gamers are generally fine with that considering the convenience. You can't bring your rig anywhere without a car or a full suitcase if you package it properly and don't break the monitor especially. You are stuck in one place for gaming. The slightly lower performance is more than worth it, and we are now in the majority, so who are you calling "nobody"?

Handhelds are I tiny niche so far. It may change, but the increase itself says nothing. You should worry about the loss of market share on your precious desktop gaming PC. Wake up to the trend and get real. As a GenX:er I know a few who still go for DIY desktop PCs, but below that, it is a decreasing minority. You don't even save any money of note, all components included.

I'm pretty damned satisfied with my 4080 laptop, which came at about the same price as a desktop with a 4080, but fully assembled, functional and practical. And it has all the performance I need. Well, 4K with RT and no SS may be a bit tough, but I can live with that. My 16" QHD+ serves me fine most of the time. I have an external 27" screen too + a 50" 4K TV, but I rarely use them.

You can also "Game" on your phone... that doesn't make you a Gamer.

No Gamer is gaming without their mouse mat, chair and set-up. Now, if you are a business man, who enjoys entertaining Yourself with arcade style entertainment on a laptop to pass time, or watch movies.. we get it. But that is not gaming.

It's like a little kid who can't leave the basement, bcz they can't take their PS5 with them, so Dad buys him a handheld so he can "game" in the backseat...

Handhelds are outselling gaming laptops, do not know what world u live in but a Steam deck & ROG Ally are better gaming machines than your laptop and cost less. Ironically, One can build a PC and buy a Handheld, for the price of buying a Gaming laptop.
(Zero compromises)

So you’ve decided to redefine the meaning of gaming to suit your erroneous argument… congrats…
But… wrong…
GAMING is NOT defined by “gaming on a high-end desktop”… it is defined as “playing games”.

Who are you to decide that the millions of us who GAME on laptops and smartphones aren’t “really gaming”?

And you can play many AAA games @60FPS+ on gaming laptops…
