On top of that we have Microsoft...they can fork out significantly more than valve and ear a bigger loss on hardware sales

They spent $80 billion on Activision/Blizzard and another $40+ billion on their OpenAI partnership. Xbox―as both a brand and a hardware sales driver―is absolutely floundering, they are sitting on a massive pile of debt, and Windows―as an OS specifically and as the "default work platform" more broadly―is barely scrapping by.

So, no, I do not, in fact, believe they can "ear a bigger loss on hardware sales". Their economic cache is dwindling rapidly. The only thing keeping them afloat is the fact that OpenAI keeps finding suckers to invest in their house of cards, which they benefit from because of their stake.
