Hey my computer is running a vgasave video card and i guess from the looks of the internet it says its temporary. how do i make it so it runs on my regular video card because this temporary one wont allow me to play the games i want.

If you wish to use this PC for gaming your first check would be to look up what the system requirements are for the games you wish to run.

You will mosty likely find that both your memory a graphics need to be upgraded. Fitting a good quality graphics card may also require a larger power supply.

Even though your video card actually supports most of the games on the market, the RAM does not. And it's very interesting that you're running DirectX 10 on a Windows XP OS - that is usually not supported and actually might be your problem. The solution for that would be to download and install DirectX 9, but you probably want to wait with that until later (it also might not be your problem.

What Mark56 said - check the game's requirements and compare these to your computer's. You may probably be able to upgrade many of the components (which may require an upgrade) without voiding your warranty - although do not take just my word for it, please.

In case you want to try and replace DirectX 10 for XP with DirectX 9, you must first uninstall DX10 and then re-install DX9. DX9 can be downloaded online at many locations, DX10 can be uninstalled from the Add/Remove program-option in your Control Panel. (please note that my rambling could also not fix your problem... Direct X 10 is better than DX9 in quiality and such, so it would be a shame if this doesn't work).

Cleaning up things on your computer will not give you more RAM (sorry if I mis-understood your post, BTW). It might "free up" more RAM, but you need to add more (or bigger) RAM-sticks onto the motherboard. Although: SIMS 2 will work on a PC with 512MbB of RAM, so if SIMS2 is not working - then there is in fact another issue underlying everything.

The latest version of DirectX10 is compatible with Windows XP. As long as you have the most recent version you can stop worrying about that.

The problem also remains that you have not got the correct drivers installed for your graphics card, can you explain what the problem is with that, do you have the correct driver? What happens when you try to install it?

The problem was that my graphics card wont even show up for some reason it says its a VgaSave card? And when i go to check what graphics card i really have it says n/a for all categories in the display tab of the properties of my computer. I probably dont have any correct drivers since this computer has been refragged due to viruses. But when i try to run the game it says "Failed to find any Directx9.0c compatible graphics adapters!" thats where im stuck

Ah, Ok. It simply sounds like you need drivers, then.

When you press "start", and press "shut down", is one or more of the three icons (i.e. hibernation, shut off, restart) faded (unpressable?). If so, then it sounds even more like a driver-related problem. Especially as you said that the computer has been "refragged" recently.

So:
What graphics card are you using?
Model number?
Do you have the drivers?
(Do you need help searching for the drivers?)

Absolutely certain, that link I gave is for the model of PC named in the DXdiag log, HP Pavilion A700N. This can only be incorrect if the graphics card has been changed or HP have got it wrong.

If the driver is refusing to install then I suspect the card is faulty. This could explain why the system has been running with VGAsave.

(is your monitor-port, aka. VGA-port, aligned vertically or horizontally?)

You wont believe it when I say this, but I'm actually looking at your computer model right now (It's my neighbor's), he says that there where two models offered at the store - one with and one without an external GPU. If your model has an external GPU, then those drivers provided could have been reproached by the machine.

Alternative A: Your model has an internal GPU - VGA aligned vertically.
We'll try to scope up some drivers for it.

Alternative B: Your model has an external GPU - VGA aligned horizontally.
We'll try and figure out your exact model and scope up some drivers for it.

Edit:
By the way, the default option for your computer is an internal GPU, so HP would have the drivers for it. But if its external, then we'll guide you into heading for nVidia or ATi's website and download the appropriate drivers.

Look at the back of the PC, where all the cables plug in.

There will be a vertical row of connections, if your monitor is connected to a plug in this row you do not have a seperate graphics card, it is integrated into your motherboard.

On the lower part of the case there will be several horizontal slots, if your monitor is connected to a plug in one of those slots you do have a seperate graphics card.

Download and install this software and then run it. From the list on the left scroll down to the hardware section and find the graphics device, click on it and post back the details that appear.

That does not provide the information I thought it would, maybe the card is defective.

I have searched long and hard for a solution to this but have not found anything constructive, only a couple of ideas that might be worth a try.

First, on the HP site (from the link I gave) in the list of drivers there is one named "Driver - Original" click on that and then scroll down to "Original Graphic Driver Collection" click on it and download the drivers, then try to install them.

Run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r as suggested earlier and Malwarebytes. Even if you have good anti virus software Malwarebytes might find something that yours doesn't see.

One word of warning, do not disable VGASave as your screen will go blank.

What happens if you go into Device Manager, right click on the device, select properties and under the driver tab click on Update Driver. Also try Uninstall Driver and reboot.

Borrow another graphics card from someone and see if your PC recognises it and ask for drivers. This may prove that your card is faulty.

Is there another monitor connector in the vertical bank of plugs on the back of the PC, if so try it and see what happens when you reboot.

Well i downloaded that original graphic driver collection and it said that the files were stored in C:\HP\Drivers\Video folder. then it says to update the driver from device manager. So under the "Other Devices" tab there is a big question mark by "Video Controller (VGA compatible)". Once i go to update this driver it gives me the option to automatically install or install from a specific location. So naturally i automatically install it and it says "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software" and i dont think i can find someone to borrow a card from, i mean do people have those just lying around? I feel like this will be an expensive fix ):

I think the card works just fine - SIW might just not detect it because there are no drivers for SIW to utilize. The default Windows VGA driver is there in its place, so the card properly recognizes the default drivers and is currently awaiting third-party drivers from the manufacturer of the card.

But, the original drivers that were installed on this card were not the correct drivers. Thus it's currently running with the VGASave-option.

Though what is hard, is finding the name of the card - as the name will guide you to the drivers that needs to be downloaded. Sometimes the name is printed on the card itself, but even more likely is that HP can provide you with the name of the card. Once one has the name, one can have the drivers.

If this does not produce any identification please remove the side of the case and pull out the graphics card, post back any names or numbers that are on the card. (Make sure you unplug it from the mains first)

I was suggesting you borrowed a card from a friends PC, purely for testing.
