The week is coming to an end and with it so has another year for E3, where hundreds of exhibitors came to show off their newest games and gadgets. Inevitably a lot of the attention went to the three console giants -- Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. While the latter took its ridiculously popular 'DS' handheld to a new era of glasses-free 3D gaming, both Microsoft and Sony sort of played catch-up by revealing their own take on motion-controlled gaming.

You could say Xbox's Kinect is the more innovative of the two as it ditches the controller altogether, requiring users to use full-body movements and gestures instead. This is Microsoft's way of luring the casual gamer, bringing a few interesting possibilities like getting some workout done using a fitness game or going all 'Minority Report' with the interface as you sift through your media library or crank up the new video chat application.

The PlayStation Move is more akin to Nintendo's Wii and as such it should offer a gaming experience that most users are already familiar with, but with better graphics and reportedly better precision as well. Love it or hate it, it looks like motion-controlled gaming is here to stay.

If you are more of the hardcore gamer type, you are probably not looking forward to waving your hands in front of the TV like a madman. But if you're in for some 'light' gaming to enjoy with the family or a group of friends, now there are options from all three console vendors. Our question for you today is: Do you plan on buying Microsoft's Kinect or Sony's Move? Perhaps you are already a happy Nintendo Wii owner? Or is this motion-gaming thing simply not for you?

Microsoft plans to ENHANCE existing controllers not replace them.Thats why i plan on getting one, Head tracking for MW2 or Halo Reach anyone?

So far the games for Move look pretty terrible and when I've played a Wii I haven't found it too enthralling so I'll pass until something amazing comes out.

As much as I'd like to mess around with Kinect -- that's all I'd really do with it: mess around briefly and probably rarely touch it after a single session or two. For me, it's just a (very pricey) novel accessory for a console I barely play anyway.

I'm more into PC gaming. That said, I can understand the appeal and respect folks who enjoy flailing around in their living room :).

I'm a solid PC gamer myself, so personally I'll pass on everything. A few friends own Wiis though, and they are loads of fun in party setting. One friend owns all three system, but I can't see him buying any of the new motion systems.

I've had a chance to play Wii a couple of times at friends houses. For me it is the most casual of novelties. Each time, after about 10 minutes I came away with the thought that, "ya know - this is really stupid." So I have zero interest in any of these motion controllers. My mouse/joystick/keyboard/gamepad work just fine, thank ya very much. ;)

hello ...

I'll MOVE in 3D ;)

1 thing bad about E3 - i see less & less PC coverage, they seem to forget that it's the best market out there, even if they keep crying about piracy, PC games get million sales all the time

I don't want to go bashing non-SONY products, but even if at some point in my life i was quite interested in former 'Project Natal' ... Kinect proved to be good but have some limitations, having no x-box means i won't have the chance of owning it, yet like i mentioned in some other posts, if it came on PC, maybe i would have bought it.

the WII had a long-waited game showcased only to have a bad sync with it's motion controller, so i guess if it appeals to those going WII-fit (OMG, i can't believe that one being always in the top 5 sales in France LOL)... i would go Nintendo mostly for Mario & for what i've seen of Metroid ...

SONY-side, well i can't says things about SONY without being a bit biased, i'm a PS3 & PC gamer so i was so much stuck to every news concerning the PS world ...
With the Eyetoy, they didn't get people interested that much, even with interesting 'augmented reality' titles. Now with the MOVE, like they say it "changes everything" ...

1st without the MOVE wand, the Eyetoy acts already like Kinect, old games weren't great but no one gave it proper support. There's a kung fu title coming to PSN with MOVE support & they said controller less, don't forget that Eyepet exist with & without the move .. so this seem to go more towards the WII like games.

The precision of the 'wand' makes the MOVE a good addon for hardcore games, SOCOM is one we can't wait to see & feel. The fighting game is great & i was hoping of much a return of the VR-gloves of the past LOL ... would be easier.

After all it's a matter of taste & being able to afford such things, we've had a lot of WII gamers, so i'm sure Kinect & MOVE will do just fine, well we do have the choice of staying with our classic controllers, keyboard & mouse (on PC & PS3 i'm sure) ...so if you like it, go for it, else .. enjoy your game the way you want & others will do same their way ....

cheers!

I will probably buy Kinect, in good part because of the novelty factor and because the Xbox is my primary console... ahrg, actually it kind of was since my console RROD'd on me a few weeks ago and was waiting for the Xbox Slim to come out, so I could buy another one. I'd switch to the PS3 if it wasn't for the investment I've already made in games and gear dedicated to the Xbox. I'm sure I'm not the first facing such a situation.

Richy2k9, PC games get millions in sales occasionally. Sims and some MMO's sell well on the PC, but though the hardcore titles do occasionally sell well on the PC, they consistently sell better on the consoles.

As for the topic, I already have a Wii, but I find the Kinect interesting, because it's different. The Move is pretty much the same as the Wii solution, so while the PS3 is theoretically the most desired console of this generation in my book (as a gaming / media station solution, and now with a Wii-like controller and HD), I don't see anything really interesting about the Move. Kinect allows doing things which are impossible with the other controllers, so it'd be worth watching.

I also think that the price drop to $149 for the Arcade makes the Xbox even more attractive than before. Unfortunately, for some reason it's not sold here in Israel (which the Wii and PS3 are).

As for me and Nintendo's current console... Wii don't have chemistry. The 360 is something I've never been able to Kinect with and my PS3 is a great system, but this new controler doesn't Move me. PC FTW!!!

I have had 3 Xbox 360's, and currently I have a PS3, but I've grown up alot since buying it and have gone back to PC gaming. I'm convinced now that PC gaming is the only way to go. The Move, Kinect, and the Wii are just kids toys.

IMO the move is just a rip off of the wii controller, so if I wanted that type of gameplay I'd buy a wii(I stick with the pioneers, not the copycats). The kinect takes it to a different level so I can atleast go into it with an open mind.

With that said, 150 is too expensive for kinect so I won't be getting anything.

I'll stick with...my mouse.

+1. I'm with hellokitty[hk]. PC gaming is the only platform for me.

My son will stick with the Wii especially with the boatload of new games coming out. And who says it doesn't have "chemistry"?

It pretty much depends on Metal Gear Solid: Rising having MOVE support or not, hehe.

i'll always be a pc gamer, but i would like to try out the kinect. i like interactivity for multimedia, not so much for gaming though. i already owned a Wii and sold it off.

hello ...

@ E3TD, i see your points, it's true that some hardcore titles have found themselves well supported on consoles, the problem is not just with the market but also because of the developers.

I agree about Kinnect being interesting, but my problem is that it's just a better use of a camera than the Eyetoy yet it still have the same limitations, even if it can detect heat this technology is cool but will not be as accurate as the WII-mote or the MOVE. I love the concept of controller-less gaming but i'd rather have the quality with it. As for being different, not so much, a lot of consoles had a camera in the past & i'm not talking about ONLY the PS Eye!

Everyone tends to see the MOVE as a copycat of the WII-mote, i'm sorry but even the latter isn't so original & mostly not unique at the time it came, but i agree that it revolutionize the gaming industry somehow. Nintendo is in video games (& other weird stuffs ;) since long) ... the company has a real experience about family games, but the Xbox & PS have a different target audience & they are good.
The technology behind Kinnect & PS MOVE are different to the WII but have almost same limitations to the WII-mote, except for the MOVE, for using a camera like for Kinnect, the device can focus on the bulb that will have a different color than the surrounding, the actual same accelerometer found in all mobile phones & WII-mote to detect a slight movement & therefore delivering a quasi-realtime response.

It's not because i'm biased here, but even if i like Kinnect's concept better i'm sure the MOVE works better of the three. There are even a few games that are still using ONLY the PS Eye & newer ones may look like WII-games, but are still quite accurate.

does Israel bans US products !?

LOL @ Guest with his 'jeux de mots'

@ Wendig0 - i do agree that the PC gaming is good, but that doesn't make console games bad & their respective controllers for kids! I'm sorry but i don't believe that anyone really can comment on Kinnect of PS MOVE, on the WII-mote maybe. Better wait & see where it goes.

@ Chazz, read above - it's not a copycat, else everything would just be a copy because it looks & works same, the technology inside makes it different, yet SONY itself said the WII-mote inspired them.
Kinnect is great concept not really tapped. Without anything to focus on still, it may & will be somewhat be confused with the environment & if the software can filter i'm sure will use a lot of resources from the machine, it will then be hard to have bigger games using it correctly.

@ the other Guest (12:18 PM) - MGS: Rising will be compatible with both MOVE & Kinnect.

Guest of 1:00 PM - i think we all are PC gamers, but some have just more platform to play their fav games. The interactivity 'a la Minority report' is really nice indeed, but limited to Xbox / Live content access, now if this was possible with other devices, like for the PC .. OMG i'll buy Kinnect day 1.

LOL freythman, Mouse + Keyboard on PC you mean, for yes i do use same on PC & also on PS3, i'm no FPS player, else would get myself a mapper for the Mouse & Keyboard FPS play in the PS3 ;)

sorry if the comment is long again, but i'm sick of seeing always the same 'irrational' comments about consoles, the technologies behind ... I believe in owning all the consoles & @ least the killer PC that can play everything, now you need to find time for this.

I want to MOVE it, MOVE it, i want to MOVE it, MOVE it ... MOVE it in 3D ;) .... make.believe, it 'changes everything' ....

cheers!

As soon as they make an X-rated "interactive" porn game for kinect 93d optional), I'm getting one 4 sho!

Is there anything in particular that convinced you PC gaming is superior?
