What are the most memorable games you have played?

Ah yes the good old days when there was no internet but modem games:
Where people would dial each other up, sometimes chat or play games like 688 Attack Sub where one would command a sub and hunt each other down. This is memorable because it was such a great game and that when I played against a friend of mine I would beat him by being a sneaky ORPHAN and come up on the tail end of his sub where it was impossible to be detected and launch my torpedos and by time he had detected my sub it was too late! He would type on his communication console "you bas#@rd" and it would come up on my screen as "you orphan" . Apparently this game had a profanity filter.

Another great game was Warcraft 1.0 it was one of the few LAN games available at the time and I had setup a one to one network with my daughter and we would play for hours and sometimes her friends would come over to challenge me and we would have what is now called a LAN Party. So the quest was on to find games that were Multiplayer or LAN games. One of them was descent 1 and later descent 2 where a group of us gamers would get together, have a few beers and then play games we would hear the yells and screams of someone who would get caught with a smart bomb and lose all their supplies.

1. Wolfenstein 3D (DOS)
2. Tie Fighter (DOS)
3. Transport Tycoon Deluxe (DOS)
4. Quarantine (DOS)

And the ultimate simulation game for me was Codemasters 24Hr Le Mans. Could only run on 3dfx graphics and are unplayable now, but with full reality settings you could play a 24Hr Le Mans, in realtime!

Pacman for DOS, played via x386, x486 machines.
those were the days I think 5 1/2 floppies were the ultimate removable media.

for windows 95, reproman, pacman

for windows 98, I got Caesar 3 and other city-building games, starcraft: broodwar, red alert.

for windows xp, I got diablo 2: lod, pacman and ms pacman via dosbox. ;)

Apart from a few old geezers, you guys are making me feel old - so I'm not listing the super old once :p

1. Chip (an old puzzle game that fit on a floppy - payed it for hours at a time)
2. Diablo I & II
3. Caesar IV (Caesar 4) - Back when Sierra was still around (rumor has it they're making a comeback)
4. World of Warcraft (I know some people make fun of this, but name one other game that's as good - that's why they still have millions of players)
5. EVE Online

I would have to give the nod to a game I played on a Apple II which started me down the gaming road, that was North Atlantic 86. Since then my favorites have been the Civ series, Ghost Recon series, EverCrack, Eve, and loved playing Vanguard but it never really caught on. World of Tanks is a quick 15 minute time suck that I can walk away from (although I don't more times than not). Currently it is Eve.

Resident Evil 1 - for the dialogue alone "you were almost a Jill sandwich".
The Secret of Monkey Island
Broken Sword
Fallout 3
Mass Effect 2
The entire Grand Theft Auto series
Frontier: Elite 2

Slightly more random Atari ST games:
Cruise For A Corpse - impossible without the walkthrough in ST Format
Life And Death / Life and Death 2: The Brain
Rolling Ronny
James Pond II: Robocod
Llamatron

I love all of the Gothic game series. Starting with music and ending with gameplay. With each further versions it`s easier to target before starting to attack. + Voice acting I like. It`s a new feature that helps to play.. Generally the best game ever with it story, gra[hics and the main - atmosphere as since that time when it was first launched in 2001, it changed only for the best
