What do you think of Windows 10?

On a 4GB, Core i3M Ivy Bridge laptop with an HD8750M GPU, the update from 8.1 tp 10 took 42 minutes.

On my PC, 280X, FX6300 @4.5 GHz, 8 GBs ram, I did a clean install, just in case. It took 5-8 minutes?

Awesomeness.

Every time I go to shut down my machine ( Win 7 64 bit ) it tells me it's installing 1 update and sits there spinning for hours. Checked windows update and "no update available at this time". I thinks it's trying to download 10 as I see $win~bt and win~ws as recently down loaded. Strang, but we'll see what happens. Update: showing that updates are waiting to be installed at shutdown, but when I open windows update, nothing available.

Can't connect to my home network anymore... wandering around in a wasteland trying to figure ou the issue. tried all the usual suspects... diagnostic, reset router... ARRRgH
remove the wifi driver kn device manager (don't remove the driver just uninstall the wifi adapter) restart windows will either reinstall the driver or you need to get the newest windows 8.1 from the manufacturer and install that.

Try getting the media creator tool MS released, for those who don't want to wait for the Windows Update push to arrive. It allows you to perform an in-place upgrade as you're trying to do. I assume this would kick it in and make it finally start for you, albeit it will re-download it all again.

I upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to Win 10 Pro on a machine running 240GB SanDisk Ultra II SSD. For some reason after the upgrade the boot time has increased from 15 seconds to a minute, including a delay in the shutdown time. I haven't yet upgraded any drivers / windows updates apart from the AMD Radeon HD 5870 display drivers.
Need to connect to the internet and check if things improve, else will have to revert back to Win 7. Boot time of a minute with a SSD in SATA 2.0 with 3Gbps is not acceptable :(

I tried a preview and didn't mind it for the most part. The license sucks though. It's far from "life time" upgrades for free for the current machine when in 2 years it will be so bloated that you will need a new computer just to start it.

I am out town for the moment so missed all the hoopla over Windows 10. I do need Media Center feature if not present I am staying put with Windows 7 and 8.1. I couldn't get my answer at a local Microsoft Own and Run Store. I might upgrade my Windows Tablet also. I waiting to see how everyone here is making out first.

It's bullshit. Stay with 7 and you'll be in heaven

What he said...it's a Big Brother system. For those who think they were "careful" in their upgrade and unchecked/turned off of these big brother options - you're wrong! There is a whole lot more to turn off that you don't know of yet:

Start>Setting>Privacy ...go through these options and you'll see how how big brother this system is.

Two words: DEVICE DRIVERS

I just upgraded my win8.1 tablet to win10 and the most painful process is finding the touchdriver that works properly, since the tablet's OEM is very reluctant to provide ALL the required driver for the cheap tablet preloaded with windows 8.1 with bing. also did a clean install and the activation works properly.

after everything works like a charm, I see no reason to ever go back to the win8.1

I think the decision to make windows 10 available for free (this one year period) for those using genuine win7/win8 helps grow the windows 10 hype. I did not expect my tablet to run an OS released to public just one week.

I don't like how visually unappealing it is, those visual styles, bland colors, flat design, fncking boring. Window tille area and caption buttons, why so white and grey everywhere. Windowblinds needs to come up with Windows 10 support soon. Other than that it seems it's pretty good. Oh, I don't like the forceful need of having MS accounts for this and that, you want Minesweeper, sign in with your MS account to download it, why I can't I just download it no friggin signing in?

The upgrade process was very impressive. Firstly my atom netbook using the media creation tool method made a flawless transition from Windows 8.1. Considering that the netbook was supposed to be incompatible with Windows 8.1 which required a registry hack to solve screen resolution issues this was a very pleasant surprise. Today, I had notification that the upgrade was ready for my Windows 7 desktop. Again this proceeded without any issues. Everything is working - touch wood. My only reservation is that if you go for the Express install you end up with most of your information going to Microsoft. These days I go for Custom installs and I have opted out of a lot of the Windows 10 default settings to increase my privacy.

My first impressions of Windows 10's interface and performance are very positive too.
