What is 'Failed to create Direct3D Device'?

I am trying to install Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (I know - Old school)! And it installed, but when I try to open it, a box comes up and says ' Failed to create Direct3D Device. This error has also been sent to Debug.log. Ok: Attempt to continue. No: Exit.'

I press ok, and nothing happens. No attempting. Nothing. I really want to play it, and I am getting a bit stressed. Can anyone help me sort it out?

What OS are you running? Have you cleaned the disk prior to installing?

I dont know what OS stands for....or what it is? I shall try cleaning it.
