What is the model of the laptop all you need to do is apply thermal compound onto the cpu or do you hear the fans spin

I do hear the fans. They get really loud for a while before it shuts off.

And the model number doesn't exist. The laptop was made by an independent company.

hmm well it sounds like you need thermal compound on the cpu does this laptop have easy access to the cpu if it does apply some new compound onto it and that will fix that problem then we can go onto the infections

I honestly would like to apply some thermal compound. I would have before, too, but there is no easy way to get to the cpu. It's extremely risky with this computer (you have to see it to fully understand). I'm never buying a computer from an individual manufacturer again!

I could always use a bigger fan, and place it near the vents, though. Sorry about that.

As you want to rescue some of your files - you could install your HDD into an external device (swap it with an external DVD or sth. like that) and do the things the others suggested (scan for viruses and so on) from your (your friends) other computer.

Cheers

Thank you for giving me that link. :) I want to back up some important files before I try, though, and I need to order a few extra flash drives.

Now, I read the whole thing, and it never really said if doing this remove viruses. What do you think?

Hmm I would take it to a local shop to have them apply some
I'm having trouble finding someone who is willing to do it (and I don't trust the Geek Squad).

I don't really kow what that means.

EDIT: I didn't get to step 10 of the preliminary removal instructions until just now. Would it be bad to use Tool 3 (VundoFix) first? SUPERantispyware detected (I think) 8 instances of Vundo.
EDIT2: Also, I don't think the internet is working for my computer. How can I download updates for the software without the internet?

Solutions

jbone,

There are several procedures I recommend. First, try downloading an anti-virus program. I know of many that offer free trials for a limited time. Second try reloading Windows XP on top of the current operating system. You can back up your files using a USB flash drive or external hard drive (they are typically low priced). If none of the solutions I provided work reply and I will provide you will more.
