What's the difference between RAM and VRAM and can I use RAM in place of VRAM?

I've realized recently that my GPU is actually really bad and I'm not in the best situation to purchase a new GPU or an eGPU and I was wondering how much a lack of VRAM would affect gaming performance? A lot of the games I want to play recommend over a GB of VRAM and all I have is a measly 120MB, but I do have 16GB of normal RAM, and I'm wondering if that could be sufficient even if I'm lacking over 90% of the proper dedicated VRAM?

What are the specifications for your computer - is it a laptop or desktop? What CPU, GPU, etc does it have?
