Where is Shader info stored?

I am trying to run a game , but it requires shader model 3.0 . Which my gpu doesn't support. So the game refuses to start (shows the message the shader 3.0 is required)

My question is, where does windows store this info? i.e where exactly is the shader version of the gpu stored? In the registry somewhere?

Spare me the 'this-wld-be-of-no-use' posts please.

or can someone point me to a forum where someone might know this?
 
Best guess is,
Your video card doesn't support this game,
Or there might be a patch.Check for the latest video drivers.
Name your Video source Internal or Plug and Play.
Post your System Specs please.:)
