Which one is better

A couple months ago I rushed to get a hard drive and didnt really research and I was wondering if I should get a new one or use my *backup one*

One in computer right now:
  1. ST1000ML024
*backup*:
HITACHI HTS725032A9A360

Or is it worth buying a better one, if so leave suggestions

Many thanks

Not a lot of information. Like how old? Which is the new drive? What are your needs space-wise? Off the bat I'd say depending on your processor you might not notice a big diff between 5400 and 7200 (in a laptop). Presume the hitachi is newer w/it's larger cache but is speed noticeable vs. 3X the space?

Personally I like that brand's reported durability. For instance, see https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-failure-rates-q3-2017/. I've also had good luck w/Samsung before they got bought. There's also http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/hard-drives,3.html. Lots of info out there, and opinions.

If you do buy again I'd just add that I recently got a deal on a 1TB but noticed reports of WD selling green drives under their 'blue' segment. Definitely didn't want to get into checking mdl numbers so I grabbed a SG. Wish hitachi's were more quiet.

Good luck,

Mac

Yeah you will; 7200rpm eats your battery and that's why 5400 are std in laptops :)

Me too! Running more quickly into a failure is not productive.

My Dell 500gb hd is years old now, but still has lots of freespace and I have webservers and tons of pictures & music on it.
Wod on the street is WD > 2TB seem to be unreliable.
