Multi-touch will be cool and all... but touchscreens, as of currently at least, take WAY too much wear and tear. I keep my equipment for MANY many years... making touchscreen a somewhat poor investment for me.

Maybe when the technology improves and screen durability increases!

As many others here: I don't see why! It's cool to show your friends that you can control your computer with your monitor, and if you really need alternative input methods for drawing etc., a tablet is a lot more useful.
Another option is voice-recognition (already included in Vista), and it's much cooler than poking around your screen with a dirty hand.
I think the most useful place for touch-screens are shops and restaurants, where they only need a limited amount of commands, and most shops already use touchscreens.

I always found things like that to be a waste of money, personally. I'm an artist and am quite satisfied being creative with an ordinary little Wacom tablet. Had a friend who told me she'd like a Wacom Cintiq 21UX and thought to myself that...for me, no matter what tablet I use, I will only be accomplishing the very same thing as I would with something a lot cheaper. I have the same mindset with touch-screen monitors; I can navigate easily with a tablet.
