Inactive Win 7 Security Virus

Need help with a Win 7 Security Virus. Computer has remnants of the virus after using the Avast and Malware Bytes removal programs. Would some of the programs help repair the system so that I dont have to choose "what program to open this file" everytime I open the Internet explorer?
