Win 7 won't recognize iphone 4 after update to 7.1.2

Worked fine before. I could plug into the computer and in Computer it would show the phone. I could click on it and open it just like any other attached drive.

Yahoo mail quit accepting the old iOS and locked email from the phone. Went to Verizon, they put in the 7.1.2 update which didn't help, I still had to accept mail from "older devices". Then was able to set up mail again.

But tried to plug phone into the computer to directly download some photos like I could before (without iTunes which I don't want) but now the PC won't recognize the phone when it's plugged in.

Without going to iTunes, is there a way to get Win 7 to recognize the phone again?

Thx

I had trouble with my i4 and the Yahoo mail. Yahoo shut me out of my mail
account on my phone, then I learned I could "allow" less secure apps
(I.e. my iPhone 4 mail app) and that restored my ability to send mail
from the phone.

However, before I discovered that, I went to the local Verizon (not a Verizon
store per se but an authorized vendor) and they didn't have a clue, so I sat
there for 2 hours while they upgraded the phone to 7.1.2. That didn't help,
and I don't like 7.1.2 nearly as well as whatever old version I had on my
phone before.

What I read later was that the earliest iOs that will work with the Yahoo mail
app is 9.1.3, and of course my i4 won't run that.

But I can still plug in my i4 to my Win7 Home Prem and use it just like always,
it recognizes the phone and I can download photos, etc, no problem.

I also don't like iTunes, too complicated! I did learn that Verizon stores
(company stores) sell refurbished smart phones with a warranty for a lot
less than normal retail. I could get an i5 while is one step above the min
for Yahoo mail for a down pymnt of around $200 and low monthly pymnts
for a couple yrs and they'd transfer all my stuff. Still thinking about that.
I don't do a lot with my phone other than emailing and the occasional
weather and the maps, so don't need a super computer type phone.

Good luck!!

@macx "9.1.3 and of course my i4 won't run that"
That's not true. 9.1.3 is the LAST ios that runs on iPhone 4
Your refusal to use iTunes is inhibiting your progress with updates.
