Windows 7 insane long launch time

What TMagic is saying is. If the restore point did not work or using the cleaner I posted. You may be better off. Doing clean install of windows. If you had that many virus at one point there is bound to be a little damage to windows it self. Even if you have the virus removed now.

Then try using the cc cleaner and running a defrag, Plus use windows disk clean up tool , See if this helps any.

Good to know. Use those tools on a regular base. This will stop this from happening again. Good Luck and you are very welcome.

Yes TheDreams, see you didn't have to re-install Windows. I'm curious how this computer keeps getting messed up, but hopefully running those tools often will settle things a bit...

It's interesting that CCleaner solved this problem for nothing. The use of such utilities on the forum has been heavily discouraged. Recently, I battled to update Internet Explorer from version 9 and it just seemed impossible. In desperation I threw in CCleaner, Glarysoft Utilities and just about anything else I could find. They made no difference whatsoever to the problem with ie9 but the one thing that became very evident was how much faster the boot up and overall performance of the computer running Windows 7 was.

As to why ccleaner is discouraged. As when it is a mild cleaner. I have no ideal. But I do no if you keep a computer free of temp files and set it to defrage regular base. It will perform much better. As far as ccleaner you really do not need to use reg cleaner in it. Unless you want .Which is your choice.

Regular Defraging hasn't been really necessary since Vista or Windows 7 was introduced, bad computer habits like powering down a computer only using the power button, or many power failures may cause hard drives to be fragmented and SSD's never need the old type of defragging. People still swear by the old utilities like CCleaner and Glary Utilities. I use a temp file cleaner by Oldtimer and MSE

Windows 7 usally dose its own defraging. I like oldtimer use it myself when needed .But not knowing his computer habits. I suggest ccleaner. I am sure you see a lot of computers from time to time that have not been defrag or temp files cleaned out. I know I do at the shop. Some people have no clue as to how to maintain a computer. I use NOD32 have had for years. Only because I get it free and the dats free from where I work. I have never used MSE. So I really can not say much about it. I have suggested to people who want free antivirus program.

Yes, I do re-install Windows fresh around every 6 months or so to eliminate any issues if necessary. All the computers I repair or service get "cleaned" and updated if necessary. I never have to "defrag"... since the days of Windows XP. Now if I get an XP computer in for service I save files and do a full format and clean install of XP always
