World's largest aircraft will offer "luxury expeditions" and glass-floored cabins

Forward-looking: Back in the summer of 2016, Airlander 10, the world’s largest aircraft, completed its maiden voyage when the helium-filled plane/airship hybrid flew for about 20 minutes at speeds up to 40 mph. At the UK’s recent Farnborough Airshow, we saw plans for the aircraft’s stunning cabin.

At 302 feet long and able to carry payloads of 22,050 lb, developer Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) said the aircraft could be used in a number of areas, such as delivering goods in hard to reach locations, communications, and for other industrial uses. Last October, HAV revealed it was developing a version of the aircraft for the luxury tourism market.

British design consultancy Design Q came up with the interior plans. Each cabin will be 151 feet, larger than most single-aisle aircraft, and features include en-suite bedrooms, an “Altitude bar,” and a huge lounge area. But the most enticing part looks to be the partly glass floor and huge windows, allowing travelers to enjoy views from the Airlander's 16,000-foot maximum altitude.

Exhibitions on the aircraft will last three days with up to 19 passengers able to take part. As it has a top speed of 91 mph, enjoyment of the journey takes priority over speed.

"Airlander challenges people to rethink the skies – that's the driving force behind everything we do,” said Stephen McGlennan, CEO of HAV. "Air travel has become very much about getting from A to B as quickly as possible. What we're offering is a way of making the journey a joy."

No word on how much the trips will cost, but you can expect such luxury to come at a high price. Hopefully, the glitches that saw it nosedive into the ground on its second flight and deflate when it came loose from its moorings last year have been ironed out.

This will certainly be every photographer's dream as long as they let you lay on the floor to shoot out the bottom windows .... and don't get accused of being an old letch by some sweet young thing that's sugar daddy took her up for her first flight. But with all that glass .... I think the mile high club might be out of the question ....... any thoughts on the cost of a ticket yet?

91mph is just way too slow. Might be good for sight seeing but I can’t see this as a viable way to get from A to B in any manner of efficiency. I frequently travel to Thailand and according to Tinder, Thailand is about 6000 miles away from London. It takes 12 hours on a regular Boeing 777 but would take 65 on this beast at top speed? I’d have to get back on to go home as soon as I got there!

I’d much much rather see something like Concorde return, 3 hours London to NY? The future was yesterday apparently..

I do believe that is what the article is referencing.

You are not giving this credit for what the concept is designed to be. I'd rather take a trip on this, than a trip to a space station for vacation.

You’re right. I’m not giving it credit. And I do get it, it’s like a giant floating cruise ship.

I’d much much rather go to a space station than literally do nothing more than eat and drink on a big balloon. Isn’t it great how we all like different things?

Alright...nice for seeing the sights while on your slow trip to wherever. But I don't see a lot of options to keep someone entertained once they start getting bored with the view...and that will happen, just like it does on road trips. There's the lounge, bar, and your suite. That's it. And that's going to get old real fast. You better have a gifted sex-addict lover with you on the trip to take up the slack.

And those curved floor-to-wall windows in the bar? I want to see what happens when a 200 lb+ man is drunk an falls against one.
