Xigmatek has unveiled its largest full-tower desktop chassis to date, the Elysium (resting place of the righteous and blessed in Greek and Roman mythology). The enclosure is undoubtedly one of the largest mainstream solutions available, measuring 9.06 (W) x 24.33 (H) x 26.10 (D) inches and weighing 33.06 pounds. By comparison, Cooler Master's popular HAF X measures a smaller 9.1 x 21.7 x 23.6 inches, although it weighs about two pounds more.

That size affords the Elysium with a spacious interior for beefy hardware such as E-ATX, XL-ATX and HPTX motherboards, 10 expansion cards up to 17 inches long, two power supplies and a plethora of cooling apparatus -- be that air or liquid. Key features include a hot-swappable 2.5/3.5-inch SATA HDD docking station on the top panel, tool-less 5.25-inch bays, anti-vibration HDD and PSU mounts, dust filters, as well as USB 3.0 and eSATA ports.

The chassis has 12 external 5.25-inch bays, although many are technically occupied by two 3.5-inch cages that support a total of eight hard drives. There's also a spot to mount one 2.5-inch drive, such as an SSD. Xigmatek ships the Elysium with four fans that have white LEDs: two 120mm in front, one 140mm in back and one 200mm side blower. There are seven predrilled holes for liquid cooling along with support for 360mm and 420mm radiators.

As mentioned above, you can install two power supplies -- one on top and one on bottom -- and we should note that your cooling options change depending on what's installed where, so be sure to read the spec sheet before ordering aftermarket fans. The Elysium is currently available for preorder with silver or black accents and with or without a side panel window. Pricing ranges from €160 to €170 (~$227 to ~$242) and units should ship on May 19.

It's certainly not one of the ugliest cases I've seen lately, but what is it made of? Aluminium or steel?

Mostly steel.
Pretty well laid out chassis. Seems to offer most of what the Corsair Obsidian 700/800D offers for a lot less. I like the layout -plenty of room and opportunity for watercooling. Should sell well with the multi-GPU crowd where chassis like the Mountain Mods Ascension/Pinnacle and Lian Li V2120 have had the HPTX form factor to themselves. Would have preferred more in the way of fan filters, but they're easy enough to source or mod.

If you're after something a little more minimalist but still offering expandibility (XL-ATX, HPTX, WS server) then the Cubitek HPTX-Tank was also released very recently

I like it! It's menacing and imposing, yet simply styled. That coupled with the facts that; it doesn't look like a promo still from "Transformers", nor does it pander to 13 year old boys suffering acute, "Wrestlemania" overdose.

I say, "if you haven't quite mastered your hormonal issues related to puberty, look elsewhere for a case". Perhaps toward NXTZ, or "XClio". Well, then there's also that new Antec "Lanboy" train wreck to "empower" you..

(Is it "NXTZ", "NZXT", or "NTXZ")? My speller's on the blink. Could it be, "FRITZ"?

This is a nice case layout. I was originally going to say that this thing isn't larger than my ascension case, but then I remembered I wouldn't dare put my case on my cheap table.

Not bad... Not bad at all... But c'mon Xigmatek, you go through all that trouble to make the interior look flawless but you don't bother to sleeve the cables? That's just wrong, lol.

Considering that this is an enthusiast class case, I would like to see better support for SSD's in this day and age. Every bay should support an SSD, as opposed to just one. Corsair's 800D (which I'm using ATM) supports the mounting of both HDD's and SSD's into its hot-swap bays and this case was released over a year ago.

Those gripes aside, this is a very nice case.

Hey my case is xclio and it kicks ***! It has a 250 mm fan in the front and on the side as well as a 120 mm fan on the back. This one has 2x 120mm on the front, one 140 on the back and if im looking at it right one behind the cpu 200 mm. This case is ok it has the anti vib and 3.0 usb for whoever wants to buy pricey 3.0 externals. But really my xclio case only cost 70$ and its HUGE, this case is 227$, unless your going for usb 3.0 don't buy this overpriced heap. Even if you do want usb 3.0 im sure you can find a case way cheaper then this. They boast dust filters but I don't see anything special. My xclio actually has a layer of plastic with tiny holes in front of 2 of my fans that catches a great deal of dirt and can be vacuumed off from the outside.

Just from looking at the hard drive mounts I can tell this case if at all bigger then mine is not much bigger.

This is the newer version of my 70$ case, aside from the changes they applied on top its exactly the same. Only buy that over priced heap above if your brain suffers from lack of testosterone due to old age. As a case that looks like a jet engine will make you mumble about whipper snappers and wheres my Viagra.

You seem to be missing the point. 10 PCI slots, XL-ATX/HPTX board compatibility -i.e. quad dual-slot graphics with room to spare. An enthusiast 4 gpu setup typically needs more juice than a single PSU can supply- hence the provision to use two PSU's.
You might also note that roof of the chassis can support a 420 radiator, while the floor of the chassis can support a 280 radiator (i.e. supports two complete watercooling loops entirely within the chassis).

Of course if you're fixated on air cooling only then you'll note that the Elysium actually supports eleven fans ( 3 x 12/14cm roof, 1 x 20cm side, 1 x 12cm r.h.side, 2 x 12cm front, 1 x 14cm rear, 1 x 8cm top PSU area, 2 x 12/14cm floor). If you substitute the white LED fans for one of every colour of the rainbow it might approach the Xclio for sheer garishness, but I suspect whomever buys a chassis like this would do so for its expandibility and not it's ability to induce retinal bleeding.

You're right, that's quite a case. Quite soothing actually, sort of like snorting methamphetamine and eating chocolate covered expresso beans at the same time.

I'm going to hold off "grabbing" one though, until they throw in a GI Joe doll, a mock "AEC" warning sticker for the door to my room, and a $71.00 rebate.

Oh, and don't forget to ration your Ritalin, don't snort it all in the first line you come to.

LOL@Xclio

u have this supernova light show and a sidewindow but the interior is not even painted.....

imo its nice to see more brands adopting the rubber grommets.

Regarding the design, i wont say it looks amazing, its not ugly and its not fantastic, its more like just goodlooking, i do like it as im no fan of too much and it certainly reminds me of my own case the 800D. Ofc i dont own a quad gpu rig so i wont need 2 full waterloops but i do appreciate a large case, just so much easier to build the damn thing......

Good points. Btw my 70$ case has 7 pci slots and Quad dual-slot graphics with room to spare. But yeah it is way better on the water cooling, 2x psu, 11 fans! etc. I was trying to point out xclio's aren't just for looks they can offer a great bang for the buck. I'm far from a enthusiast, I didn't know there were that many out there. Water cooling looks great but I personally wouldn't spend that much on a computer.

Snorting Ritalin huh? You sure think a lot about drugs. If I didn't know any better id say you were some old guy who works in the lunch room at high school or a college professor who's been disappointment one to many times by his students. Maybe your house has been robbed a few times by meth heads. What puts the cranky in captain cranky?

Perhaps your simply a angry old man that yells at kids who play on his lawn. The cups always half empty isn't it captain?

I expected a smarter comment from you, not just a far reaching rant on style preference. Sniffing Viagra has dulled your mind.

Let this be a reminder to everyone to keep personal comments out of this thread please. Thank you.

Be all of that as it may, I'm still going to stick with my own interpretation of, "good bang for the buck cases", an Antec 900, and a Cooler Master Storm "Scout".

The general consensus from myself, and apparently many of the other angry, bitter, old men here, is that X-Clio's case styling in general, is a bit too brassy to abide long term.

For myself, I'm content with the cases I have, their advantages being I don't have to look at them backwards in my shield, to avoid being turned to stone by looking directly at them.

(Notice how I worked more Greek Mythology into the thread about the "Elysium)?

Good points. Btw my 70$ case has 7 pci slots and Quad dual-slot graphics with room to spare.
Quad dual-slot graphics means Quad (4) x Dual slot (2 PCI expansion slots)
4 x 2 = 8 (PCI slots)
7 PCI slots generally means the exhaust slot of the fourth card butts up against the chassis (i.e. no exhaust). In the case(!) of the XClio -this is assuming that the double height doesn't incorporate outputs across both levels- it also means that the same fourth card will have it's intake fan suffocated by the floor of the chassis (i.e. no intake)
No intake + No exhaust = super short card lifespan.

I mention this to make the distinction of what up until recently has been an industry accepted 7 expansion slot chassis (like yours). With the advent of gaming workstation class boards, and multiple GPU setups gaining -more mainstream traction because of better perf/$ ratios, and the need for more graphics horsepower due to Eyefinity/Surround/3D Surround you should note that 8 (as well as 8+1, 10 or 11) expansion slots are now becoming de rigueur. The extra slots also allow for an adequate and unrestricted airflow over a dual or tri-GPU setup also.

I might add that a chassis that is built around 12 and 14cm fans offers the user a very easy upgrade/replacement path. I don't think the same can be said for the XClio- given that the fans in that chassis seem to be prone to dying** I wouldn't count the chassis requiring replacement 25cm (or 36cm!) fans an automatic choice...except for someone who wanted "something different"

** The replacement unit doesn't fare any better

Yeah your right divide, especially about xclio fans dying out. My side 250 mm fan died 3 months before my warranty ran out and im ashamed to say I never sent it in and ended up buying a new one for about that price. My 250 mm front fan was sputtering yesterday, iv had this case for almost 2 years. I have seen quite a bit of reviews from people complaining that there fans have died a lot quicker then mine. I think at least vacuuming the outside of them every few months really helps keep them going. I only have one gpu in this case and I still installed 7$ pci fan below it to push out that bottom air. I hope anyone who has quad sli uses water cooling :). Heh my case was 70$ when I bought it looks like it went up a bit. Yeah I would cut a dang hole in the bottom of my case if I had quad with one flat on the bottom. Or try to seat my mobo an inch higher.

250mm fans are overrated, the 8$ or so 120 mm back fan I bought seems to push more air then any of the 3 250 mm fans iv dealt with, but it is noisy on high

Let's see now, first there was this;

Wow, that's some serious backpedaling!

But then, why suggest others buy one of these, "biggest bang for your buck cases", if your "joy of ownership" doesn't extend to hunting down specialty parts for the rest of its lifespan.

The short answer ostensibly reads, "because misery loves company"! (or ?)

Anyway, the burnt out fans probably aren't a total loss, I suppose you could strip the LEDs from them, and glue them around the case.
