The Internet has been synonymous with pornography for years but the ever-evolving technology landscape is reshaping how people consume such material. Point in case - recently released statistics from porn aggregator PornHub reveal that 52 percent of adult content in the US is viewed on mobile devices.

Broken down further, we see that another 10 percent of pornography is viewed on tablets for a grand total of 62 percent with only 38 percent of visits coming from desktops. For comparison, 46 percent of visitors surfed from a desktop last year. On the worldwide scale, desktops are still preferred - but just barely. A full 51 percent of visitors from around the globe used their desktops while 49 percent arrived via mobile.

The statistics probably don't lie, either, as the massive sampling size of 14.7 billion visitors would most certainly weed out any stray data. For those doing the math, that equates to 1.68 million visits per hour, every day for the entire year - or 63.2 billion videos, whichever way you want to look at it.

Truth be told, the statistics shouldn't really be much of a surprise when you consider how many smartphone and tablets have shipped this year. And it's certainly easier to find a bit of privacy with a portable device than a desktop or a notebook, but I digress.

The NSFW blog post has some other interesting facts and figures as well, such as the average time spent on the site per country / state and even how sporting events, television events and national holidays affect viewing habits.
