Customization is the name of the game with the new Moto 360

Motorola, makers of what many consider the best smartwatch of 2014 largely due to its timeless good looks, unveiled its second generation Moto 360 earlier today at IFA.

The 2015 Moto 360 is all about options. For starters, Motorola is offering your choice of 42mm or 46mm watch face. The former consists of a 1.37-inch LCD display with a resolution of 360 x 325 (263 ppi) while the larger version features a 1.56-inch LCD sporting a resolution of 360 x 330 (233 ppi).

At the heart of the digital timepiece is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Soc clocked at 1.2GHz, an Adreno 305 GPU running at 450MHz, 512MB of system memory and 4GB of onboard storage. The smaller of the two packs a 300mAh battery while the bigger brother draws juice from a 400mAh battery; both support wireless charging via included cradle.

Motorola says the watches should last up to 1.5 and two days of mixed use, respectively.

The new Moto 360 is loaded with sensors including an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope and an optical heart rate sensor. The body is constructed of 316L stainless steel with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 over the display and carries an IP67 dust and water resistance rating. Both sizes are compatible with standard 20mm and 22mm watch bands.

Best yet, the Moto 360 can be fully customized using Motorola's online Moto Maker tool. In total, there are 288 possible combinations of colors and build materials for the band and bezel. There's even a style designed for women with fashion-friendly finishes and a smaller 16mm band.

Motorola also announced a fitness-oriented version of the watch known as the Moto 360 Sport. As you might expect, this model is decked out with enhanced fitness tracking capabilities. What's more, it features Motorola's proprietary AnyLight display for enhanced visibility in direct sunlight and is the only member of the Moto 360 family to include GPS.

The new Moto 360 will be available later this month starting at $300 and topping out at $450. Motorola said it'll reveal more information regarding the Moto 360 Sport at a later date.
