TiVo last September launched the Bolt, a 4K-ready DVR sporting a unique curved design and some nifty software features. The Bolt didn't tick all of the boxes, however, as it only offered 1TB of storage space, just four tuners and one color option (white).
On Monday, TiVo addressed the device's shortcomings by adding a new DVR to the family, the TiVo Bolt+.
The Bolt+ retains the same unique form factor but boosts internal storage to a spacious 3TB which, according to TiVo, can accommodate 450 hours of HD content.
What's more, the box now packs six tuners that allow users to record and watch more programs at once. If you're a major television / movie buff or have a large family with multiple members vying for DVR time, additional tuners can make a big difference.
The Bolt+ also includes many of the software features found on the original including QuickMode which speeds up playback by 30 percent with pitch-corrected audio and SkipMode, a one-button solution to bypass commercials on certain channels. Although not mentioned in today's press release, TiVo is expected to add HDR capabilities to its Bolt line via software update at some point.
TiVo's new box is also offered in black, a more universally accepted color for home theater gear compared to white.
The TiVo Bolt+ launches on September 15 priced at $499.99 (note that you'll also need a TiVo service plan).
