Insta360 Ace Pro 2

Insta360 has just launched their latest action cam, the Ace Pro 2. This unit adds an absolute boatload of smaller tweaks: Some hardware, some software depending on said new hardware. The headline features is the 8K functionality, though, that’s more of a spec bump from 8K/24FPS to 8/30FPS. Instead, I’d argue the headline features is the collection of just ‘darn useful stuff’ that’s there for daily usage.

Overall, if you're in the market for an action camera that excels in image quality, stabilization, and ease of use, the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 should be high on your list. While its improvements may not be revolutionary for those with newer gear, its ability to handle a variety of shooting environments and produce consistently impressive results make it a strong contender in its class.

Regrettably, I didn’t have a Hero 13 available to test against the Ace Pro 2. I did, however, have the next best thing in the Hero 12. I took both cameras on the same trail, with optimized action settings for each device, and sat them side-by-side to compare the results. While both cameras showcase great footage that reflect just how far action cameras and their technology have come over the years, to me the Ace Pro 2 stands out as a clear winner both for its detail and superior stabilization.

In the end, I think I’ve moved past the utility that the x4 provides. You might not have though. For most people, that’s where I’d suggest starting. Once you’ve moved into creating more in depth video then it’s time to look at this class of camera. These days I use a Nikon z6 with a 105mm macro lens and Rode mic for video of myself.
