Acer Googlebook 14

Overview

The Acer Googlebook 14 is a great premium laptop, but it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s only worth considering if you want a lightweight, high-end convertible laptop and you’re already deeply enmeshed in Google’s/Android’s ecosystem.

The Acer Googlebook 14 is a hugely likeable laptop. Not only is the hardware lovely, but Googlebook OS is surprisingly well-rounded for a first attempt. It didn’t hold me back from working as I expected it to, and it felt lightning-quick no matter what I threw at it.

The Acer Googlebook 14 stands out in the lineup for its 2-in-1 convertible design and enticing $899 starting price. Its 14-inch OLED panel is a marvel, and its sleek, thin, lightweight design makes it a great travel companion. This laptop also offers strong performance and solid interoperability with Android phones. Unfortunately, that same interoperability is also its biggest hindrance, along with the sometimes spotty Googlebook OS.

Acer’s first Googlebook nails a lot of the basics, with a 14-inch OLED touch screen, a decent processor, and the latest connectivity standards. Whether Googlebook OS works for you, though, depends on how strongly you're tied to Android.

The Googlebook era gets off to a great start. Acer’s convertible laptop is sleek and its operating system improves on ChromeOS in several ways – but lags behind in others

If you're a Google fan who wants something that works well within the Google ecosystem and don't mind some bugs and bumps, you'll love what's on offer here. Again, though, you should consider a Qualcomm-based Googlebook if you want the best software compatibility, battery life, and performance.
