The Moto G9 Play has its moments, and it had the potential to be a fantastic smartphone under $300. Unfortunately some concerns with battery and shutter speed mean that much of the playful handset’s shining lights are eclipsed by the drudgery within its day-to-day use. If photography and active screen time aren’t important to you, then this phone is still very much worth considering.

The Motorola Moto G9 Play is a successful, affordable smartphone, which has good performance and a lot of staying power, but not such a good camera.

The new entry-level champ in Moto's roster is excellent value for money and has all the essential elements of a noteworthy affordable phone: it has excellent battery life, big display, good camera, and most importantly, killer price.

The Motorola Moto G9 doesn't change up Motorola's budget formula all that much. Performance is fine, battery life is fine and camera quality is a little bit wanting, and I can't help but feel like I've said that about Motorola phones in the past, too. If camera quality is your core concern this won't be the phone for you, because even at the lower price point of the Motorola Moto G9 you can do better.

A repackaged Moto G9 for Europe, the Moto G9 Play is much the same as the G8, with a few changes and a slightly cheaper price.
