AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D offers 7600X3D-like gaming performance, just at a higher price. A price cut to between $250 and $280 would make it far more competitive with Intel’s offerings, as well as AMD’s other Zen 4 X3D chips.

AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D could be an interesting entry point to AM5 gaming, however their pricing strategy has mucked things up entirely.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D is a capable desktop processor for a dedicated gaming PC, but its older design and lackluster CPU performance make it tough to recommend more broadly.

In terms of pricing, the $329 US price tag is quite good; it makes the 7700X3D the cheapest 8-core option with 3D V-Cache, and given its performance, which is just 4-5% lower than the 7800X3D, it is a fantastic option for gamers. It offers great gaming performance, superb temperatures & power efficiency, plus, you don't need to change much of your AM5 setup to support this chip.

Our recommendation is straightforward. If the Ryzen 7 7700X3D remains near its $329 launch price, it is one of the more interesting gaming processors available in its class and a nice foundation for a new AM5 gaming ecosystem. We wish we could tweak it a little more to retrieve some raw processor 'oomph' out of it, as you'd have a very nice proc at hand at a reasonable price.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D is the cheapest option available if you want the power of 3D V-Cache on Socket AM5-based motherboards.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D is the new entry-point into the AM5 platform, and what a stepping stone it is. This 8-core, 16-thread CPU outperforms its category in gaming loads, and can handle productivity tasks when you're not playing your favorite titles.

The new AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D's configuration is similar to the existing 8-core Ryzen 7 7800X3D, but with lower base and boost clocks and a lower price that should make it more accessible to gamers.

By HotHardware on

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is, in every way that matters, a lower-clocked 7800X3D. It uses the same single 8-core Zen 4 CCD, the same 96 MB of 3D V-Cache stacked on top, and the same AM5 platform—the only difference is a firmware-locked maximum boost of 4550 MHz, 500 MHz below the 7800X3D's fused limit of 5050 MHz. There is no architectural difference to find here; the entire performance gap between the two comes down to that one clock number.

By TechPowerUp on

While based on AMD Zen 4 rather than Zen 5 or the upcoming Zen 6, the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D is an interesting addition to the AM5 product family for those after the cheapest possible 3D V-Cache processor for gaming or other workloads that benefit from 3D V-Cache. As noted one potential interesting avenue for the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is for student developers or hobbyists/open-source developers working on relevant HPC and technical computing codebases for decent performance while being the lowest-cost 3D V-Cache processor and very nice performance-per-Watt.
