Yeah, I installed them before the beta game :)
It was AA that wasn't activated before restarting the game. Nice and smooth and tbh can't see much difference at 1920x1200. Although now I've found myself crawling through the ground, must be using prone more than when I first started playing the beta.

Apart from that issue and disconnecting I quite like the game so far. But then again I liked BF2:BC2 too :)

Well I've been playing the beta and so far I like it. The graphics are amazing, gameplay is pretty smooth minus some outside areas in metro. I do however hate how it launches through web browser, I hope they change that for the actual game. Also is anybody else annoyed by all the badges and the end of a round and that sound every time it shows you the next badge? Haha it was cool for a whole 2secs.

Also a chat message system in the browser instead of the game is another annoyance. Yeah the badge parade is a bit repetitive.

Pumped for this as well, here's to hoping it doesn't fall into the pitfall CoD has. I have faith in DICE however.

Here is some gameplay footage I took yesterday ;) Will be recording tomorrow with 1280x1024 res and everything on "ultra" as well as MB @ 100, vid will be running at 30FPS.

Also someone on MMO-Champion posted some terrible news, at least in my eye.

No in game squad management. But.. but.. If I end up in a tank with someone and we do well I usually switch into their squad. Makes sense for a number of reasons. I wonder what the logic behind that is... Maybe to stop switching squads to get a better spawning position or other balancing reason.

I do not appreciate not being able to choose squads. I usually have 2 or 3 friends getting onto the same server with me (PC) and I cannot seem to get into the same squad. That ruins part of the game (voice communication and tactics).

Haven't had a chance to play with friends yet but thought that maybe the drop in section to add friends would then put you all in the same squad? If it doesn't then the lack of changing squads is a big mistake!

Ya the squad management is awful, I hope they do away with it and go back to something like BC2/BF2 as it makes team play significantly harder. The game in general has a lot of little issues that start to add up imo, but I'm trying not to be overly disappointed since this is an early build and hopefully DICE will have them fixed.

My biggest complaint by far from a gameplay standpoint is the terrible hit registration. I am very disappointed that it feels so bad, even worse than BC2 which DICE explicitly said would be hugely improved. When I'm not running around with what feels like a BB-Gun, I am being insta-killed or dying seconds later after diving behind cover.

[Edit] Here's a video showing off what I'm talking about made by another user experiencing the same issues.

Performance wise I'm pretty satisfied as the game in general feels decently smooth minus lag/glitches. Been running FRAPS benchmarks throughout the week and here are my results:

Metro Outside (First MCOMS) - Average 43
Metro Subway (Second MCOMS) - Average 52
Caspian Border - Average 44 (didn't get that much time here and only took a few samples)

My system setup is pretty much what I have in my specs, however my X4 is OC'd at 3.5 and my 6850 is at stock atm. Don't think I'll mess around with anything hardware wise till release. I was able to squeeze a modest boost out of BC2, so I'm hoping I can do the same here.

I'll be playing throughout the week if anyone is interested just hit me up, I'm Relic28. Might want to add me on Steam since I keep that on whenever I'm online.

Well I have faith in DICE and have pre-ordered the game now, Special Edition dvd copy from Amazon, £10 cheaper than through Origin
Good job EA! That's a good start to your digital distribution system to compete with Steam. Make the download version more expensive than the physical version including postage!!

    Origin

I know now why they want it based on Origin... Instead of running through a standard Game GUI they are using the web based version....Which I don't like. But I love the game as a whole and don't see a point in boycotting it over which platform it is on. I'm not a fanboy of Steam. In fact, I've had my share of hatred towards it. Competition isn't a bad thing... and it's not like Origin is heavy on the machine. Very lightweight and fast.

Should I just keep playing BBC2 until the bugs are worked out with bf3?
  14. RH00D TechSpot Booster Posts: 311   +33

That's what I'm doing. But for me it's more of a financial reason. Although, if you wait, you'll have a game with less bugs and most likely you'll be able to get a good discount on it by that time.

Finally got the game up and running this evening and it's been a blast (when it works :blackeye:). I am a little surprised DICE was able to address many of the issues people complained about from the beta especially hit registration which is better now. However some issues are still lingering on top of balancing concerns and lag/crashes. Not to mention it STILL doesn't have a menu and everything runs through their idea of a 'social gaming network'. In the end though it's a pretty solid & fun game at the core and beautiful to boot (DICE wasn't lying about that imo) if you can look past the flaws and stupid design decisions. I'm sure they will also be working on the lag/crash and balancing issues ASAP as MW3 is right around the corner.

Regarding buying the game right now, that's all up to how well you guys received the beta and if you can look past its flaws. I decided for myself that pre-ordering at $50 :)grinthumb Amazon) was worth it, especially since I got the DLC included and some dog-tags. Buying it right now at $60 bucks and not getting anything extra might be a waste since you will probably want the DLC which I believe is planned for November (probably $15). It wouldn't surprise me either if Amazon or someone else come next month has a one day special with the game being $10-$20 dollars cheaper.

I'm very, very pelased with this product IN COMPARISON to what I expected. I despise the browser... and that my AMBX kit breaks the game unless I kill the process for fxGen.... but I would never go to a CoD game after Battlefield.

The pro's are simple. Sweet gameplay (amped up version of BC2), killer jets, fun maps, city-style maps (something I longed for in BC2, but the desert cities didn't fill for), and I love the sniping.

    Personally, well worth the pre-order.

    Graphics Card Issue with BF3

I've got a bit of an issue. I am in college and my university provides every student a laptop but they aren't exactly the newest and best. I have BF3 but my graphics card is below the minimum requirements for BF3. My laptop is a Dell E6400, any clue as to which graphics card I should look into getting that would work with my laptop and that would also allow me to play BF3 at a solid level. I was looking at a GeForce GTX 550 TI but I'm not sure that my laptop is compatible with it. Could someone please help?
  18. Arris TechSpot Evangelist Posts: 4,308   +17

You can't put a PCI-E (expansion slot type) graphics card into a laptop. They generally use a mobile version which is often integrated into the laptop's motherboard to make it more compact. Usually you cannot upgrade this. A few laptops over the years have come with daughter board graphics cards that can be changed (usually Nvidia ones) but not sure this is still something being used.

Reading more about your laptop it uses intel integrated graphics, so there is nothing you can do to upgrade the graphics capability of it. Unless you undertake something like this. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You should pick up the gt540m. It isn't expensive and it can manage bf3 easily :)

Once again, just in case Arris didn't get through, it's not going to be compatible. Laptops are not capable of having Video Cards added on like a Desktop.
