Thanks guys. Guess I'll have to mooch off of my roommate and play some BF3 on his Alienware laptop for the time being. Time to start looking for a solid laptop that'll handle BF3 so I can swap it out for this joke of a laptop that I was given. I'll probably look into getting a used one or something that was factory refurbished...can't really swing getting a brand new laptop that'll be able to handle BF3 on at least medium settings. Any laptop ideas?

That's what we are here for.

Yeah, we can help, but can you give us a price range you're willing to pay? That way if we look, we'll know what to link. Also, just out of curiosity, why not a desktop?

I can't really see myself going over $1,500. As for the desktop question, I guess I would have to say that I like the mobile qualities of a laptop (i.e. being able to take it somewhere else to play a game). Also, I am a current college student so I don't have a ton of space where I can put a desktop plus I'll be moving in a few months so that brings back up the mobility issue again. Also the cost of a desktop is an issue. I know I'll be able to get more power from a desktop but I feel like the prices are going to be a little higher and like I said I can't really go above $1,500.

Is it just me, or is Origins 'browser launch' the worst idea since Michelle Bachman for president? geezus

A scence group has actually released a front end which bypasses origin all together...

This will only work with legal copies of the game.

For anyone interested I started up our TechSpot Platoon again. We had one in the beta, but it appears all platoons have been wiped from Battlelog. Just search TechSpot and it should come up or hit me up and I'll invite ya.

One of those at least doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell :p .

    ...and thank god for that!:D
I saw the platoon crest you made for BF3 TS, Nice work:grinthumb

I second that - was thinking to myself "That's an awesome looking crest - I wonder if we had a professional craft it for us"

I finally got some time to play with BF3, and it is the best multi-monitor game I have seen so far. It really adds to the urgency and tactical sense as well as a bit of disorientation.

@red1775 - what's your setup? As far as origin yeah it's terrible... I really wish you could have multiple soldiers - and the time between rounds is almost unbearible. Fortunately, the game is good enough that isn't a deal breaker for me.

    Hi B,
The specs are in the specs drop-down on the 'member since' on the right. Yeah the Origin browser system seems like such a circuitous route to get there. But the game is awfully good.

Bit disappointed in the single player campaign.
    Issues so far:

    - One mission we had to clear a room of guys. AI partner says "Come on, let's go" and I can clearly see a bad guy still crouched in the next room. Follow my partner through and get nailed.
    - On the mission "Night Shift" where you stop a car and have to defend it while your partner grabs the occupant. My partner sat squatted in the path of incoming enemies, who seemed happy enough to use him for cover. Given the urgency of the situation as soon as the car stopped I sprinted over to it's position. I must have tried the mission at least 10 times, several times going through around 100 sniper rounds (not missing that much). Eventually I started by going over to my AI partner and jumping around him shooting and it triggered him to move. ./sigh

I finished the single player campaign and I felt it was wonderful... and too short. I did have an issue like your first, but didn't have any like your second. Something similar though, when we were capturing that guy in the mall he just sat out in the open and got shot at but didn't take any damage. Everytime I'd get close to him they'd start picking me off but he could just sit there all day till it was time to go.

I really loved the flight , tank, and parachute missions. Those were just awesome and the audio was incredible during those missions as well.

I got the game in todays post but now I need to get to university. Hopefully I can say what LNCPapa write about at the end of the day :) I'm so hacking exiting.

I enjoyed the story and the game was fun but my biggest complaints were:

    1) Buggy AI, poor realism. I could run down a corridor and take out half a dozen guys without taking a hit. Then be prone sticking out from a corner to snipe and get killed by an AI opponent blindfiring from behind a pilar.
    2) Unclear directions/trigger for scripted events (NightShift mission, see my previous post)
    3) Too many quicktime events breaking up gameplay. There is one point where you can decide whether to shoot someone or not and the game locks you into the "scene" and all you do is click the mouse button or fail and repeat. I'd gone through the rest of the game shooting guys, I'm sure I could have done it without being stuck onto a rail. Hated the quicktime event struggle scenes since I first encountered them in a Medal of Honor game. They didn't make me feel like I was really needed for the scene and most of them could have easily been cut scenes without any interaction and it wouldn't have made the game any less enjoyable.
    4) Little short, but this is to be expected in a game that is going to rely mostly on multiplayer for its success.
    5) Bit corridor like, doors that only open after scripted event, few invisible barriers.

For the most part I think it was on par or slightly better than other single player offerings of this genre.

Will post feedback after I've had some time to play the multiplayer ;)

Finally got around to playing the campaign and man the reviews sure were right. It feels very mediocre overall and your points are spot on Arris. Especially bad AI, they seem to bug out at least once every mission, if they aren't pushing me out of cover, they are getting stuck and freezing up on queues when they should be moving forward. One of the reviews I read equated BF3's campaign to a Tom Clancy made for TV movie, which I can definitely see.

I guess I'm being so critical here since this isn't DICE's first time around the block for a campaign. They've already done the Bad Company campaigns, which to me were pretty solid and had a fun storyline. BF3 seems like a step backwards from that which I'm a bit bewildered by considering how heavily it was pushed as being something great. Taking a look back I think I may have enjoyed Crysis 2's campaign more =X .

Hey hey hey, don't get carried away :p

Found my old Logitech Wingman Force 3D joystick recently and plugged it in. Wish there was a flight practice section rather than embarrassing myself in front of other people. But it does make chopper and jet piloting a lot more fun. Just need to make sure all buttons are correctly mapped and functioning before getting more into it.
