Google announced recently that it is expanding its call support for Hangouts. The company now gives users in 25 different countries the first minute of international calls for free using the service.

Google's all-in-one Hangouts app provides easy text/video chat as well as phone calls for free inside the US and Canada. Now, users located in any of the 25 supported countries can get the first minute for free using Google's Hangouts for desktop or mobile devices.

While users certainly wont get much mileage out of one free minute, it is nice in case of an emergency or to quickly check in with friends and family. Google suggest the first minute could be used to "call that great-aunt you can only handle 55 seconds at a time," or to "call local restaurants, hotels, and attractions when traveling internationally." However, you'll need to give up your credit card data and add credit to your Google account before you receive the free minute. Any overage time will be charged as per Google's usual voice calling rates.

Initial reports say the free minute is already available on what looks like all versions of Hangouts for those in the supported countries and with available credit. some of the supported countries include Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Canada, United Kingdom and the United States, among others. You can see more details on supported countries here.
