Overclocking
I
was looking forward to the chance of getting to overclock
again. Previously I had overclocked my P166 MMX to 200Mhz
& with my newer P3 450Mhz PC I had got it up to 600Mhz,
although due to an unfortunate turn of events (like the
motherboard not having any reset jumpers & me blowing up
the power unit) I’ve been without that system for a while,
hmmmmm. As you can guess I was just that little bit more
cautious this time.
Using
the excellent (albeit slightly dated) Softmenu 2 I was able to
get my board up a 124Mhz FSB. I was unable to get any higher
as my hard drive wouldn’t take the 133Mhz FSB, which was
slightly odd as at that speed a ¼ multiplier is used for
devices. But anyway, my PC is now running perfectly stable at
558Mhz.
It
seems a bit strange that Abit choose not to have included
Softmenu 3 instead of Softmenu II. Still, an 110Mhz increase
in system speed (25% or so in real terms) is quite a nice
increase all the same. Using trusty old SiSoft again I re-ran
the benchmarks taken earlier to show performance improvements
in Memory, Drives, CPU & Multi-media benchmarks.
